Couple 'Fake Their Engagement' To Get Hotel Upgrade And Freebies

The couple hatched a sneaky plan for an upgrade during their stay at the Shard in London.

A couple have revealed how they 'faked their engagement' to get a hotel upgrade in the Shard and freebies.

Rhian Smith, from Liverpool, says she borrowed her mum's ring while heading out for a meal and stay at the fancy London restaurant and hotel on Friday 3rd December with her boyfriend Harry Collins.

In the pictures the couple shared from their date night, the pair dressed up in smart black clothes as they celebrate their successful plan.

Rooms at the swanky hotel can cost as much as £1,045 this time of year, while one of its restaurants charges £188 for a wagyu tomahawk steak.

Rhian said in a Tweet: "Borrowing me mums engagement ring to get a hotel room upgrade and a free [dessert] in the shard tonight.

"We just got engaaaaaged can we have a bigger room pls."

The next morning she posted an update saying 'bag secured' to celebrate their success in getting the freebies they both hoped for, along with a photo showing Harry holding his faux fiance's hand.

Rhian also included a close up snap of their free desserts displayed on plates with 'Congratulations' written in chocolate with the engagement ring visible on her finger.

The Tweet has since gone viral, with 7,771 likes, 124 retweets and 36 quote tweets, with most Twitter users seeing the funny side and sharing their support for the couple.

One Twitter user responded with: "Can only rate it."

While other people were less than impressed, with one response calling out the couple and branding them "pathetic."

Rhian declined to comment further.

The Shard were contacted for comment.
