Dad slammed after he 'lashed out' at nurse who didn't allow him to change son's date of birth

"His date and time of birth is a fact, not an opinion."

A dad has been slammed after he 'lashed out' at a nurse who wouldn't allow him to change his son's date of birth.

Unfortunately, even if you are the biological parent of your child, you don't have the authority to move space and time.

But one bloke gave it his damn best.

Taking to Reddit's AITA (am I the a**hole?) thread, the 34-year-old explained that his baby boy arrived into the world at 11.05pm on 31 December, 2020.

This dad learned the hard way that you can't change your baby's DOB.

However, when he went to fill out the baby's documents, he attempted to push the time forward by an hour - meaning he would've been born at 12.05am on 1 January, 2021.

As for why he was so keen to change his son's birth date, the Redditor explained: "2020 was a s****y year, I'm glad it's finally over and I don't want my son to be associated with it.

"So adding 2021 would make more sense."

Although the new dad thought he had it sussed, the nurse spotted what he was doing and the pair got into a disagreement.

"I told her it didn't matter and that it was better that way," he added.

"After she tried to argue with me telling me that what I was doing is considered forgery and would cause a huge issue because it's not just an hour, I was changing but the date as well.

"I told her that I'm his dad so I get a say and take full responsibly for anything that happens later.

"She lashed out at me and told me that 'this is not how it works' and that this form will not be accepted because it contained false information.

"She got more people involved including the paediatrician who disrespected me by raising his voice.

"I told them that I'm the parent I have the authority. They ended up taking the form and didn't let me fill it out."

The dad went on to say that his wife wasn't too pleased with his actions.

"My wife said that I embarrassed her by making a scene and acting stupid and lashing out," he said.

Although most of his family agreed with the wife, the bloke's brother at least had his back.

As for the online community, it seems most people are also siding with the wife and nurse.

One Redditor wrote: "As a parent you don't have authority over space and time. His date and time of birth is a fact, not an opinion."

People shared their sympathy for the nurse who had to deal with the situation.

Another pointed out the tax benefits he would enjoy thanks to his son being born at the end of the year, while a third said they 'got mad' at him on behalf of the nurses.

"The ones I used to work with had horror stories about people like OP [original poster]," they added.

"OP I hope you realise that if you’d gotten your way - it literally would have put more than just one job and livelihood in jeopardy. Get over yourself."

A fourth, who was a little gentler with the dad, said: "A bunch of terrible things happened to you in 2020, but one good thing also happened. Your son was conceived."
