I'm sure many of us have been buzzing to binge-watch the third season of Bridgeton since it dropped on Thursday (16 May), but it's clear it's not the only period drama fans are obsessing over right now.

Viewers are now demanding a second series of the 'greatest show ever' that’s been dubbed better than the beloved Regency era TV series which stole our hearts when it first hit Netflix in 2020.

The eight-part series first hit our screens late last year and is based on the 1938 novel of the same name by Edith Wharton, set in the 1870s, around the time Wharton was a young girl.

The plot follows the lives of a group of young, wealthy and 'fun-loving' American women who have been sent into the 'tightly-corseted' London high society to secure husbands and titles, kicking off quite the Anglo-American culture clash - dealing with differing approaches to tradition, friendship, and - of course - love.

The series stars the likes of Kristine Froseth, Alisha Boe, Aubri Ibrag, Josie Totah, and Imogen Waterhouse.

Matthew Broome, Josh Dylan, Barney Fishwick, Guy Remmers, Mia Threapleton, and Christina Hendricks also star.

If you hadn't already guessed it, the series if none other than The Buccaneers.

Check out the official trailer here:

The first season premiered on in November 2023 on Apple TV+ and, just a month later in December 2023, it was renewed for a second season and it's clear fans are buzzing for it.

One X, formerly Twitter, user penned: "I love this news! I love this show! The Buccaneers Renewed For Season 2 At Apple TV+."

"I need season 2 of The Buccaneers immediately. Guy & Nan’s chemistry was too much. Sorry but Theo never stood a chance," quipped a second.

A third chimed in: "Btw when is season 2 of The Buccaneers coming out…"

"JUST FINISHED THE EPISODE AND I’M SO GAGGED !,&!:?! THEY NEED TO START FILMING S2 RNNNNNNN," piped up a fourth while a fifth joked: "Bridgerton needs to up their love confessions because The Buccaneers cleared.. like get up!"

A sixth wondered: "The Buccaneers might be tugging on Bridgerton crown."

Another echoed: "The Buccaneers really said 'Bridgerton who?' with this ending… so so SO good."

"The Buccaneers greatest show ever created yup yup," praised a final Twitter user.

Well, that's this weekend's plans sorted.

The Buccaneers is currently available to watch on Apple TV.
