Following controversial footage of Strictly Come Dancing's Wynne Evans and his on-air behaviour with dance partner Katya Jones going viral, a body language expert has weighed in.

On 12 October, viewers were left divided after Strictly scenes showed 52-year-old Welsh opera singer Wynne placing his hand on 35-year-old Katya's waist, leading her to push it away.

Separate footage from the competition revealed Katya rejecting a high five from Wynne and rolling her eyes.

Viewers of the show and spectators on social media hit out at the behaviour, deeming it to be uncomfortable and inappropriate.

As a result, Wynne and Katya issued a joint apology video, with the two then issuing personal statements of their own.

Katya said: "The hand incident that happened on Saturday night was a very silly inside joke between Wynne and I, so even the idea that it made me feel uncomfortable or offended me in any way is complete nonsense.

“It’s quite absurd, actually. Can we focus on how brilliantly he’s doing and what an amazing dancer he’s become?"

Meanwhile, Wynne said he had been left 'heartbroken' by the response.

He added: "Katya and I are really really close and we're really good friends and on Saturday night, we made a stupid joke that went wrong. We thought it was really funny. It has been totally misinterpreted."

It seems the statements from the pair haven't totally cleared up people's suspicions that something was awry - leading them to appear on Strictly's companion show, It Takes Two, to further dispel allegations of inappropriateness.

Following their joint interview, a body language expert has stepped in. You can see what you make of their body language in the It Takes Two interview below:

Judi James told The Sun that Katya is 'in denial'.

She said: "Poor Katya has been on the Strictly sofa hot seat before, only this time the ‘denial’ demands were different as she tried to persuade us that she and current partner Wynne actually are close buddies despite their very curious body language displays on the weekend.

“With a rather awkward, chastened-looking, apologetic video tucked under their belt it would all be down to the visual proof of their claims that a shared love of playful fun made their odd body language rituals just some kind of standing joke between them.

“Katya led this ‘denial’ performance firmly and emphatically, interrupting the normal interview to address the problem head-on and dramatically.”

She added that Katya's 'pale-lipped facial expression and tone made her look and sound close to tears,' before adding 'her fingers spiked with emotion and her head shook from side to side in what looked like denial and disbelief.'

Tyla has contacted representatives for Katya Jones for comment.
