Barbie fans stunned as Margot Robbie isn’t nominated for Best Actress at Oscars

Barbie fans stunned as Margot Robbie isn’t nominated for Best Actress at Oscars

Film fans have been left outraged after Margot Robbie was left out of the Best Actress nominations after her title role in Barbie

Film fans have been left outraged after Margot Robbie was left out of the Best Actress nominations after her title role in last year's box office hit, Barbie - despite the fact her male co-star Ryan Gosling did receive a nod for his turn as Ken.

The movie's female director, Greta Gerwig, was also snubbed.

One person tweeted: "So Ryan Gosling’s nominated for playing ken but Margot Robbie isn’t nominated for playing barbie… in Barbie."

Someone else said: "No nomination for Margot Robbie or Greta Gerwig for the #Oscars but Ryan Gosling gets one. Literally the whole point of the Barbie film."

A third added in disbelief: "WHAT????? Margot Robbie being snubbed."

A fourth also wrote: "Wait Ryan Gosling got nominated for his role as Ken, but Margot Robbie didn't get nominated for Barbie?! And Greta got snubbed for Best Director?!?! Way to justify the literal plot of the movie @TheAcademy."

The nominations for Best Actress are Annette Bening (Nyad), Lily Gladstone (Killers of the Flower Moon), Sandra Hüller (Anatomy of a Fall), Carey Mulligan (Maestro) and Emma Stone (Poor Things), while the nominations for Best Supporting Actor are Ryan Gosling (Barbie), Robert Downey Jr (Oppenheimer), Robert De Niro (Killers of the Flower Moon), Sterling K Brown (American Fiction) and Mark Ruffalo (Poor Things).

As for Best Director, nominations have gone to Justine Triet (Anatomy of a Fall), Martin Scorsese (Killers of the Flower Moon), Christopher Nolan (Oppenheimer), Yorgos Lanthimos (Poor Things) and Jonathan Glazer (The Zone of Interest) - but sadly no Gerwig.

The news follows Barbie being one of the big winners at the recent Critics' Choice Awards, bagging the accolades for Best Comedy, Best Original Screenplay, Best Production Design, Best Costume Design, Best Hair and Makeup and Best Song for 'I'm Just Ken'.

Accepting the Best Comedy award, Robbie said: “You know, when everyone is like ‘Oh, this is so unexpected'. This is actually unexpected and was not a part of the show. We were very grateful nonetheless."

She then handed over to Gerwig, who continued: "We were excited in our chairs and it's nice to be up here. Thank you to everyone that helped make this movie. I laughed so hard every day between almost every take because of our beautiful cast - Margot and Ryan and America and everybody who got to be as brilliant as they are.

"Thank you Mattel for letting us take their beloved icon and make something so unhinged, and thank you Warner Bros. for standing behind us every step of the way. And thank you to Noah Baumbach. We just wanted to make each other laugh and we're so happy that we made the world laugh too."
