Netflix has explained the controversial 'erect penis scene' from one of its recently added shows, A Man in Full.

The mini-series, which recently dropped on Netflix, tells the story of Charles Crocker (played by Jeff Daniels), a real estate tycoon who faces sudden bankruptcy.

The series is based on the novel of the same name, but it has a rather different ending.

In the show, Charlie walks in on his wife, Martha, having sex with a man named Raymond Peepgrass (played by Tom Pelphrey).

She then runs out of the room, leaving Raymond exposing his erect penis, after having just taken viagra.

Furious at the situation, Charlie tries to choke Raymond, but begins having a heart attack himself, restricting him from letting go of his neck.

In the show, both men die - which is a different ending to the novel, in which Raymond and Martha end up together.

After the show dropped on the streaming platform, many people were alarmed over the graphic scene, in which Pelphrey wore a prosthetic penis.

Netflix has since explained the ending further, writing on its Tudum platform: "Charlie once again wraps a hand around Raymond’s neck, this time to choke him.

"At first he’s filled with rage, but then his expression becomes suddenly panicked as he realizes that he can’t break his grip on Raymond’s throat.

"With his wide eyes gleaming even as he gasps for air, Raymond seems to exult in Charlie’s madness — at least for the moment, before Charlie clutches at his own heart and the two collapse to the floor, Charlie stricken by an apparent coronary, Raymond by asphyxiation."

Showrunner David E. Kelley added: “There’s a look on Raymond’s face — his last act in life was to bring Charlie Croker down, and there was some satisfaction in that. It’s very perverse.”

“Beware the male ego. If it’s not checked, it’s capable of all kinds of havoc.”

Pelphrey has spoken out about the scene and what exactly went in to creating the prosthetic penis.

“... The conversation was, what is the maximal comedic penis payoff? We didn’t change a word of what David wrote, and I let that always let that inform any decision I make," he told Variety.

"So, based on the text, we thought it was kind of funny that this little buggy Raymond Peepgrass might have a f**king big d**k.

“... There was a terrifying moment where part of the fitting process, as described to me, involved a lot of hot wax, which scared the hell out of me — and we were luckily able to avoid it.

"There was lot of work, a lot of meetings, a lot of talking, a lot of fittings, went into that prosthetic.”
