Netflix fans raving about ‘amazing’ new baking show that’s been dubbed the ‘American Bake Off’

And it's not just the subject matter itself where viewers have seen the similarities

Netflix fans are absolutely LOVING a brand new baking show that’s just dropped on the streaming site, with many comparing it to another beloved series that’s all about baked goods.

From Sugar Rush to Is it Cake?, we’re all obsessed with baking contests, a fixation that probably has something to do with the fact we’ll never be able to master those towering showstoppers ourselves.

The latest is Netflix’s Blue Ribbon Baking Championship, which follows bakers from state fairs across the USA as they battle it out to win $100,000.

“For over 100 years, the American state fair has been the proving ground for the most wildly talented bakers across the United States,” Netflix says.

“Now, for the first time ever, Blue Ribbon winning bakers from state fairs across the nation get the chance to compete against each other in the Blue Ribbon Baking Championship.”

While American Pie star Jason Biggs is on board as host, baking icon Sandra Lee, former White House pastry chef Bill Yosses and award-winning artisan baker Bryan Ford serve as judges, putting the contestants through their paces to see which baker serves up the ‘most delicious, inventive, and masterful delicacies’ to win the nation’s ‘ultimate blue ribbon’.

Naturally, it’s not taken long for viewers to compare it to arguably the archetypal baking show - although it’s not just because of the shared subject matter.

“As a #GBBO lifer, I’m loving the Blue Ribbon Baking show on Netflix… there’s been a few other attempts, but this seems finally like a US version that captures that same essence and feel!” one gushed on X.

Someone else echoed: “Netflix finally produced a cooking/ baking show with some natural light. A nice change to the dingy studio cellars they normally film in. Even though it copied the tent atmosphere of GBBO, it did it well. I enjoyed the Blue Ribbon Baking Championship.”

A third wrote: “Watching blue ribbon baking on Netflix, and while these aren't really gbb-level bakes, they're still so damn impressive. I'm like ‘I can usually make cake from a box and not burn it.’”

A fourth added: “The Blue Ribbon Baking Championship on Netflix is so incredibly sweet. It counteracts other toxic reality shows. Go. Watch it.”

One viewer described the show as ‘GBBO 2.0’, while another said it was simply ‘amazing’.

“I recommend this Blue Ribbon Baking show on Netflix to ease yourself back into the world,” someone else offered as they reflected on the gentle nature of the show.

Sounds perfect for a night in on the sofa, right?
