Dad and reality TV star Martin Makepeace has described himself as a 'true narcissist' following his appearance on ITV's new dating show My Mum, Your Dad.

Martin, who lives in Ibiza with his 18-year-old son, quickly made a name for himself upon arriving at the countryside retreat when he sparked up a love triangle with his co-stars Tollulah and Monique.

Both women were keen to win Martin's affections, but the father's confidence left people divided and sparked criticism of his behaviour online.

He's admitted he's a 'Marmite figure' - but it doesn't bother him one bit.

Speaking to MailOnline about the backlash he's received from viewers, Martin said: "I would have been disappointed if I didn't get that reaction to be honest."

In fact, Martin actually loves the drama he's caused.

Martin admitted he enjoyed dividing viewers.

"I must be a true narcissist because I'm really enjoying it," he said.

The dad, 53, made clear he's no stranger to being judged as he continued: "When you're 6ft8 you've got two choices, fade into insignificance or go all out there, and I chose the second one.

"I would rather say I'm just overconfident, but I do understand why they would say arrogant."

Martin kept up his confident persona after Tolullah started to fall for another Martin on the show, and even shared a kiss with him, though Martin M indicated he wasn't worried.

"I wasn't convinced they were a match because Tolullah was obviously saying things to me. She tried her hardest to get on board with Martin which was why she did it," he said.

"My ego definitely wasn't bruised but I was surprised and maybe pushed into a direction that I went in."

Martin described Tolullah as an 'amazing person', but it was Monique he finally settled on to bring the love triangle to an end. Unfortunately, however, their romance didn't last long.

Martin ended his love triangle by choosing Monique.

Martin explained: "The love triangle took so much out of me emotionally and physically. You're in a really intense environment in there, once I got over the line with Monique I just relaxed a bit and didn't put any effort in whatsoever...

"And I can be easily distracted, she was right. I've got so many things going on. I lack focus which has been a trait my whole life. It's not the first time it's happened.

"Hindsight is a wonderful thing but what I should have done was settle down early and get to know Monique a bit more."

Though Martin didn't succeed in finding love during the retreat, he wasn't unhappy with the way things turned out on the show.

"When you've got two beautiful women wanting you and getting to know you more, it's not the worst place in the world to be, is it?," he said.
