News of a Grey's Anatomy spinoff has got fans hoping that a character will be returning to our screens.
It was revealed this week that ABC had greenlit a special for Grey's.
According to Variety, the new show will feature an as-yet-untitled one-hour spinoff, which they say will focus on 'a team at a West Texas rural medical centre — the last chance for care before miles of nowhere'.
We'll have a while to wait just yet, with the new show rumoured to be broadcasting anytime between now and 2027.

Ellen Pompeo is attached to executive produce, alongside series creator Shonda Rhimes (who many know from Bridgerton) as well as new showrunner Meg Marinis, who took over the role back in 2024.
Fans are hoping they'll get to see a familiar face again.

Viewers suddenly remembered that a character disappeared from our screens, to head to Texas....
Fans have been sharing their theories on social media that we might get to see the return of Dr. Levi Schmitt, played by Jake Borelli.
He appeared in the show from 2017 to 2024, but his character departed after he was offered a paediatrics fellowship in San Antonio, Texas.
“Surely this means a Levi Schmitt return right?!” they commented, hopefully.
"Guess who's working in Texas' wrote one fan account, with a photo of Schmitt.
Others thought about Stephanie Edwards, a character who was badly burned in a hospital fire.
Sharing a pic of her, they wrote: "Guess who grew up in Texas and moved back there to recover from her burns years ago."

Showrunner Meg Marinis said: “I am incredibly excited to expand the Grey’s Anatomy universe. This opportunity will bring new characters and stories to life that will embody the same heart, emotion and connection audiences have loved from Grey’s for more than two decades — all set in my home state of Texas. I am so grateful to Shonda Rhimes for creating this dynamic world and feel so fortunate that I get to be a part of it.”
The new show follows previous spinoffs, Private Practice, Station 19 and Grey’s Anatomy: B-Team.
It is not known whether Ellen Pompeo's Meredith Grey character will make an appearance.
Others were left confused by the Texas location.
“In Texas?? Why there, though?” wrote one on X
“Who is even in Texas?” added another, as one viewer quizzed: “For it to be a spin-off it has to be related, so [do] we know if there is character crossover?”
“What characters would be around? I love Texas and think it’s a dope idea. But this is definitely random!"
