I'm A Celeb legend reveals one gross task campmates don’t actually have to do

ITV viewers may have been tricked by appearances

An ex-I'm A Celeb campmate has spilt the tea on an 'on-screen illusion' that takes place every year, which sees stars appearing to carry out a chore which doesn't actually need to be done.

Phil Tufnell - who was crowned 'King of the Jungle' all the way back in 2003, before returning to the jungle 20 years later for the big-name 'All Star' series - dropped the bombshell in his recent memoir while discussing his time on the show.

For those in need of a reminder over 'camp chores', each year, ITV producers prescribe the contestants with a list of tasks that need to be completed each day.

This includes cooking the evening meals, washing up all the pots and pans, keeping on top of collecting wood for the fire, and generally keeping the camp tidy.

Not only do these chores provide the survivalist environment with an air of organisation, but it keeps the camp free from rat and insect infestations.

Another task on the list - and arguably the most dreaded - is 'handling' the camp lavatory (famously known as 'the dunny'), which stars would ceaselessly complain about whilst disposing of the stomach-wrenching bucket.

Interestingly, however, in sharing some insider secrets from the series in his new memoir, IAC legend Phil Tufnell revealed that campmates don't actually have dispose of the dunny in the way that viewers see from home.

"A little secret here – the contestants remove the dunny, but don't actually empty it," the former cricketer revealed.

"They carry it down to a camouflaged wooden hut, tap on the door, and clear off."

Phil then went on: "It's basically an extreme version of that old knock-and-run game where you wrap a bit of dog muck in newspaper, set it on fire, drop it by someone's front door, ring the bell, and leg it."

He also reminisced on some of the friendships he forged during his most recent appearance last year, where he placed in fourth behind third-place Olympian Fatima Whitbread, runner-up Diversity star Jordan Banjo, and winner TV presenter Myleene Klass.

“I got very close to Dean [Gaffney] and Joe [Swash]," Phil wrote.

"Great lads, they came bouncing in like bouncy balls. Just full of life. And also Jordan, or the biggun' as I call him."

Phil added, however, that he did get on with everyone, adding: "Toff [Georgia Toffolo] was great fun. Carol [Vorderman] was beautiful and demure. Amir [Khan] is a great lad, what a top block he is.

“Janice [Dickinson] is absolutely lovely - and wild – crikey, there's not too many Janice's in the world.”

He went on to confess that he was particularly fond of Shaun Ryder on the show, saying: "I mean, absolute legend, and we just have a laugh."

He added: "He makes me laugh and I think, especially with that stick, he looks like Yoda.

"Y'know the little bloke with the hessian cloak in Star Wars with the stick and the ears. I reckon he's gonna start levitating soon, haha."
