We have lost many national treasures in the film industry since the release of Harry Potter, but you probably didn't realise just how many.
The last death from the franchise was actress Dame Maggie Smith, who was beloved by all and even won two Oscars during her career for The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie in 1970, and California Suite in 1979.
However, you probably know her best from her work as Professor McGonagall for a decade in the Harry Potter films.
Smith is just the latest legend to have passed away since starring in the Wizarding World, and you're going to be devastated if you missed who else died since the films were first released in 2001.

Daniel Radcliffe, who was the Boy Who Lived for over a decade, was understandably devastated by the news of her passing, and swiftly paid tribute to his wonderful colleague, who he had also worked with during David Copperfield.
He wrote online: "She was incredibly kind to me on that shoot, and then I was lucky enough to go on working with her for another 10 years on the Harry Potter films. She was a fierce intellect, a gloriously sharp tongue, could intimidate and charm in the same instant and was, as everyone will tell you, extremely funny."
Here's a full list of Harry Potter actors who have sadly passed away since the film franchise was released...

Harris' death was a shock for many who had just begun the journey of Hogwarts, and were being welcomed into the wonderful world of wizarding.
His portrayal of Albus Dumbledore was astounding, even if he was on screen for a short time compared to how long the films ran.
Harris was the protective father figure for Potter for the first two films of the series; Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (2001) and Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (2002).
The latter would end up being his final film role.
