It is finally December and that means it is, at long last, acceptable to blast all your favourite Crimbo tunes and binge-watch all the best festive films.

Now, while I'm sure the likes of Elf, It's A Wonderful Life and Home Alone are up there on the watching list - there's a brand-new 'hilarious' Christmas film now out on Netflix that viewers are calling 'this generation's Freaky Friday'.

The family comedy flick in question, which currently holds the title of No. 1 in Films Today (4 December) stars Jennifer Garner, Ed Helms, Emma Myers and Brady Noon. Check out the official trailer here:

The film, Family Switch, directed by McG and based on the book Bedtime For Mommy by Amy Krouse-Rosenthal, sees a family descend into total chaos days before Christmas when a rare cosmic event causes the parents to swap bodies with their teenage kids.

The plot follows the likes of Jess and Bill Walker (Garner and Helms) who are doing their best to keep their family connected as their children grow older, more independent, and more distant.

However, a chance encounter with an astrological reader causes the family to wake up to a full body switch, on the morning of the most important day of each of their lives.

"Can the Walkers unite to land a promotion, college interview, record deal and soccer tryout?" the official premise adds.

Family Switch stars Jennifer Garner, Ed Helms, Emma Myers and Brady Noon.

Sound familiar at all? Maybe a tad similar to the iconic 2003 box-office smash, Freaky Friday, starring Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis.

In the movie, the infamous mother and daughter duo do not get along. however, things take a turn when, in a freak incident, they switch bodies and are forced to live each other's lives.

It's clear the parallels between Family Switch and Freaky Friday haven't gone over people's heads with many taking to social media to share the comparisons between the two.

One X, formerly Twitter, user penned: "Family Switch on Netflix is literally a Gen Z revamped version of 13 Going on 30 meets Freaky Friday."

A second added: "Just watched this generation's version of Freaky Friday and 12/10. Would recommend Family Switch on Netflix for a short, entertaining, mindless movie."

People are comparing the Netflix Christmas flick to Freaky Friday.

"Family Switch on Netflix is basically Freaky Friday," claimed a third.

A fourth chimed in: "Omg Family Switch looks like a newer Freaky Friday! I’m definitely watching it this weekend!"

"So Family Switch on Netflix is basically a modern remake of Freaky Friday," echoed a sixth while a seventh quipped: "Family Switch is a great movie and fills the void that Freaky Friday has left for so many years!"

A final social media user gushed: "Family Switch is hilarious! Highly recommend!"

Well, I know what's on my viewing list next to Love Actually and The Holiday this festive season.

Family Switch is available to stream on Netflix now.
