Euphoria viewers have spotted a detail from the season three premiere that appears to have foreshadowed one of the show’s most unexpected deaths.

The HBO drama returned last month after a lengthy hiatus, with its third season following the central characters as they navigate increasingly dark and chaotic storylines.

Across recent episodes, viewers have watched Rue Bennett become caught up with the DEA, Cassie Howard getting into OnlyFans, and several long-running tensions reach breaking point ahead of the finale.

However, following the penultimate episode, fans have been looking back at the start of the season after noticing what now appears to be a major clue.

The moment in question comes during episode one, when Rue is seen leaving Mexico on a bus to California. During the scene, as pointed out by elitedaily on Instagram, a rattlesnake is briefly shown slithering near the US-Mexico border.

At the time, the shot passed without much explanation, but fans now believe it was foreshadowing the death of Nate Jacobs, who was killed by a rattlesnake in episode seven.

Nate, played by Jacob Elordi, died after being abducted by loan shark Naz over his mounting debts. The character had already been placed in danger earlier in the season, with Naz previously taking a finger and toe as a down payment.

In the latest episode, Nate was locked inside a coffin and buried beneath the Sun Settlers construction site, with only a pipe providing him with oxygen.

Cassie, played by Sydney Sweeney, attempted to raise the money needed to save him by sleeping with Hollywood actor Dylan, while Maddy also became involved in a desperate attempt to pay off the debt.

The plan eventually led Cassie, Maddy, and Alamo Brown to the construction site, where Alamo shot Naz before the group used equipment to dig up the coffin. Sadly, though, when the lid was opened, Cassie and Maddy discovered Nate was already dead.

The rattlesnake had made its way down the oxygen pipe and bitten him, leaving the pair too late to save him.

The discovery has since prompted fans to revisit the premiere, with many noticing the similar snake appearing six episodes earlier. Those eagle-eyed fans aren’t necessarily saying that this is the exact same snake that would go on to bite Nate, mind you, but more like an incredibly subtle hint of things to come.

Whichever way, Nate’s death has definitely divided viewers, with some arguing that the character’s ending felt abrupt, while others suggested it was a fitting conclusion after his actions in previous seasons.

Elordi has since addressed the exit in a behind-the-scenes clip, saying: "Nate is someone who's made so many mistakes and made so many dark choices.

"It's cool to see it all come to what it's come to...And that was it. It's a bittersweet thing”.

"The show is a massive part of, not just my career, but my life. It's been amazing, and I'm proud to be a part of this."

As for what comes next, Euphoria season three will conclude with episode eight airing next week.
