Netflix viewers ‘can’t wait’ for TV adaptation of heartbreaking film starring Anne Hathaway

We're just a little over a week in 2024 and we've already been spoilt with a whole lot of cracking telly to help cure those January blues.

However, it seems our luck extends beyond the first month of the year as there's a brand-new TV adaptation of a heartbreaking film starring Anne Hathaway coming to Netflix next month and fans 'can't wait' for it.

And the best part? It'll grace our screens right in time for Valentine's Day.

Ambika Mod and Leo Woodall star in the new series.

The premise for the series reads: "After spending graduation night together, Emma and Dexter go their separate ways - but their lives remain intertwined."

The upcoming Netflix limited series tells the decades-spanning love story of protagonists Dex and Em as they reunite on the same day every year.

If this sounds familiar, it's because it's another adaptation of David Nicholls' 2009 worldwide bestselling novel One Day, which was originally adapted into the 2011 feature film starring Anne Hathaway and Jim Sturgess.

This time around, it's been reimagined as a 14-episode British series.

Check out the official trailer here:

The show sees the likes of BBC's This is Going to Hurt actor Ambika Mod starring as Emma, with White Lotus star Leo Woodall as Dex.

Joining the two leads are Essie Davis, Tim McInnerny, Amber Grappy, Jonny Weldon, Eleanor Tomlinson, Joely Richardson, and Toby Stephens.

Explaining exactly what viewers can look forward to next month, Tudum continues: "It’s July 15, 1988, graduation night for Emma Morley and Dexter Mayhew.

"Although uni’s coming to an end, the two students speak for the very first time that day and go their separate ways the following morning.

"Where will they be on this one ordinary day the next year, and the year after that, and every year that follows?

"Each episode finds Dex and Em one year older on this one particular date as they grow and change, move together and apart, and experience joy and heartbreak."

Consider me well and truly hooked.

One Day will premiere on Netflix next month (8 February).

And it seems I'm not the only one as fans all over have since rushed to social media to share their excitement over the upcoming series with one X, formerly Twitter, user writing: "Can’t wait to see this!"

A second penned: "Loveeee the movie with Anne Hathaway. Excited to see it as a new series!"

"These two were on fire in This is Going to Hurt and White Lotus (S2), respectively, last year. Looking forward to seeing them together in this," praised a third.

A fourth admitted: "The movie was incredible and made me cry... I can't wait for this series!"

"I am beyond excited for this!!!" gushed a fifth, while a sixth declared: "I will be watching the absolute sh*t outta this."

That makes two of us.

One Day will premiere on Netflix next month (8 February).
