Warning: Contains spoilers for Netflix's A Man in Full

We've seen a whole lot of weird and wonderful viewing material when it comes to Netflix, but I'm sure it was quite a shock for some viewers when they saw a fully erect penis in A Man in Full.

The mini-series, which recently dropped on Netflix, tells the story of Charles Crocker (played by Jeff Daniels), a real estate tycoon who faces sudden bankruptcy.

The TV series is based on the novel of the same name, but it has a rather different ending.

In the show, Charlie walks in on his wife, Martha, having sex with a man named Raymond Peepgrass (played by Tom Pelphrey).

She runs out of the room, leaving Raymond exposing his erect penis, having just taken viagra.

Charlie is so furious that he tries to choke Raymond, but begins having a heart attack himself, restricting him from letting go of his neck.

In the show, both men die - which is a different ending to the novel, in which Raymond and Martha end up together.

Unsurprisingly, the scene caused a fair bit of controversy online.

Mary Killen, columnist at the Spectator, wrote: "I don't want to see graphic sexual images when I'm watching a drama. There is too much already and it is reducing us to no better than barnyard animals.

"Viewers shouldn't be forced to see pornography. This trend will end in tears as it's depressing, unmysterious and taking away some of life's magic."

Meanwhile, Jen Chaney from Vulture wrote: "Right now you are probably feeling shocked, flabbergasted, disgusted, profoundly confused, or some combination of all of these emotions. That is okay."

Following the controversy, Pelphrey has spoken out about the scene - and what exactly went in to creating the prosthetic penis. Yep, it's not real!

"All my wheels were turning because at that time, Kaley was pregnant," he told Variety. "I knew I was going to be a dad and all of a sudden, I just started thinking about everything different, like, ‘Oh, God, do I want to have my clothes off on camera?’"

"All things that literally have never crossed my mind, truly. I’m always like, ‘That makes sense, let’s do it!’ All of a sudden I’m like, ‘I’m gonna have a kid, I don’t know if I want her to see this!'

"... The conversation was, what is the maximal comedic penis payoff? We didn’t change a word of what David wrote, and I let that always let that inform any decision I make.

"So, based on the text, we thought it was kind of funny that this little buggy Raymond Peepgrass might have a f**king big d**k.

"... There was a terrifying moment where part of the fitting process, as described to me, involved a lot of hot wax, which scared the hell out of me — and we were luckily able to avoid it.

"There was lot of work, a lot of meetings, a lot of talking, a lot of fittings, went into that prosthetic."

I'm sure there was.

A Man in Full is available to stream on Netflix now.
