Netflix star had to make ‘annoying’ sacrifices when filming NSFW scene with Natalie Portman

Netflix star had to make ‘annoying’ sacrifices when filming NSFW scene with Natalie Portman

Charles Melton said the sex scenes were shot 'respectfully'

A Netflix star has opened up about the 'sacrifices' he made in order to film an X-rated scene with Natalie Portman in their flick together.

Filming steamy scenes has to be one of the most awkward things actors can go through.

Despite it being their job, multiple stars, including Jennifer Lawrence, have opened up about the difficulties of separating real life from what they are filming.

The Hunger Games star previously revealed she had to be 'very drunk' before kissing Chris Pratt while filming Passengers - battling with the fact he was a married man.

But Charles Melton is the latest to reveal what 'sacrifices' he had to make in order to film X-rated scenes with co-star Portman while starring in May December.

The comedy-drama follows an actor (Portman) whose latest project is to play a woman (Julianne Moore) who was jailed for the statutory rape of her son's 13-year-old schoolfriend (Melton), who she has since married.

In the film, Portman’s character is shadowing the couple as she prepares to play the role of Moore's character.

During the movie, Melton went on to have a sex scene with Portman - but with a pretty unusual addition.

“It was very professional, Melton told Variety.

“The whole thing. Natalie, Todd, and I met to discuss the scene, walking through it and ensuring everybody was comfortable.

“There were a few conversations about the prosthetic, regarding what was realistic and what wasn’t. And I had to wear that prosthetic for nine hours that day.

“I didn’t have anything to drink that morning or the night before. That was an annoying process but still very respectful.”

The film won the 2024 Oscar for Best Original Screenplay, with particular praise going to Melton for his performance.

Explaining how he prepared for the role, he said: "There’s so much pathos, so much going on.

“There’s this kind of repressed feeling. How they talk, it’s all right in the throat. For [playing] Joe, these words are forming for the first time."

Talking about the help he received from director Todd Haynes, he added: "Todd held my hand every step of the way.

"When you have that support from a director like Todd Haynes, in my opinion, the greatest living director, there’s no boundaries or limits.”

You can stream the May December on Netflix.
