Fans of Taylor Swift have rushed to the singer's defence following the release of a new track said to be about her fiancé's genitalia.
The single 'Wood' is one of the 12 anthems featured on the 35-year-old's 12th studio album, The Life of a Showgirl. By Taylor's own admission, each song was written while she was in the midst of the European leg of her Eras Tour last year.
For those in need of a reminder, this period of the US chart-topper's life also came just weeks after she first went public with NFL beau Travis Kelce, to whom she has since gotten engaged.
And apparently, one single from her latest release was inspired, more specifically, by the sportsman's moves between the sheets.
'Wood' features much raunchier lyrics than Swifties are used to, with lyrics that include: "Redwood tree, it ain't hard to see / His lovе was the key that opened my thighs."
Taylor wrote the album whilst on tour (Kate Green/Getty Images) Elsewhere, Taylor sings: "Girls, I don't need to catch the bouquet, mm / To know a hard rock is on the way / And baby, I'll admit I've been a little superstitious / The curse on me was broken by your magic wand."
Unfortunately for Taylor, however, her playful attempt at describing her sex life hasn't gone down too well with a number of long-time listeners, several of whom have accused her of straying away from her original material.
"As a great fan of Taylor Swift's, I have to say that Taylor's latest album, especially the song called WOOD is really lousy," one hit out on X (formerly Twitter). "I wish Taylor to know that nobody wants to hear the obscene and erotic stuff in her songs and she shouldn't have created such perfunctory works for us."
Another agreed: "Taylor Swift is so bad at writing about sex (re:wood)."
"TIL that 'wood' is about Taylor Swift's sex life and I think that's too much internet for me today," a third wrote. "And also I'm scared for the rest of the album."
Doing as they do best, however, hordes of Swifties subsequently ventured online to defend the musician, wondering what could possibly be so wrong with a spot of dirty talk.
"Oh come on," one fan begged. "Wood is supposed to be a really funny and fun song. It works that way. And she wrote London Boy or Me!"
Some critics weren't thrilled by the lyrics (Ezra Shaw/Getty Images) Another hit out at her critics, adding: "I’m really not sure why there is so much hate for the new Taylor Swift album. So she’s singing about sex. She’s cussing. Oh no! She is 35 years old. She wrote an adult album. She can’t write songs like Love Story for the rest of her life.
"Chill out, relax and visit some Redwoods!"
