Taylor Swift just got brutally shaded by her ex's mum with savage comment about breakup

The mother of one of Taylor Swift's exes just threw some serious shade at the singer during a talk show appearance in America.

Denise Welch, 67, whose son is The 1975 frontman Matty Healy, 36, made the brutal comments on Bravo TV's Watch What Happens Live on Thursday (24 July).

She sat down with host Andy Cohen, who wanted to know what it was like for her when Taylor’s eleventh studio album was released last year, as a number of the songs were rumoured to be inspired by her son.

For those who need a reminder, Taylor and Matty dated around May 2023, however, the relationship was seemingly short-lived and ended just over a month later, according to reports.

However, the two have been pals for a long time and first faced dating rumours all the way back in 2014.

When The Tortured Poets Department came out in April 2024, fans were quick to theorise that some of the songs were alluding to the pop superstar’s relationship with Matty.

Taylor has never confirmed this to be true and The 1975 singer hasn’t said much on the topic, aside from a few words when he was approached by paparazzi shortly after the album’s release.

When asked whether he’d listened to his 'diss track', Matty, who’s now engaged to model Gabbriette Bechtel, said: “Oh. I haven't really listened to that much of it, but I'm sure it's good.”

And now, his mum Denise made sure not to mince her words when giving her verdict, more than a year on.

Andy asked: “Denise, your son is the great Matty Healy. On that topic, Miss Swift wrote a whole album about their relationship, The Tortured Poets Department. What was your reaction to that album?”

Denise then paused for a moment before saying: “Obviously, on pain of death, can I talk about that episode but not being her mother-in-law is a role that I’m glad that I lost.” Ouch.

The British TV star then assured: “Not that I have anything against her at all. It was just, you know, it was tricky, listen, you’re not allowed to say anything and then she writes a whole album about it.

“But Matty has taken it all completely in good grace, he’s very happy with his amazing fiancée Gabriella - Gabbriette - who is gorgeous, so we’ve moved on.”

The moment has, of course, very quickly gone viral on social media and not everyone is impressed with the savage statement.

Someone wrote: “Omg get over it the album wasn’t just about him.”

Another added: “Respect to Matty and his mom for handling it all gracefully Taylor turned a chapter into an album that’s just who she is. No hard feelings, just moving on with life.”

“All the other artists are allowed to write about their exes but when it comes to Taylor it suddenly becomes forbidden,” someone else quipped.

The TV moment also comes just as Taylor’s boyfriend, American football tight end Travis Kelce, shared an array of pictures of the couple together.
