Matty Healy appears to confirm engagement to girlfriend Gabbriette Bechtel

The 1975 frontman Matty Healy and his girlfriend Gabbriette Bechtel appear to have gotten engaged, with Matty seemingly confirming it.

The couple, who got together last year, appear to have taken the next step in their relationship, with Gabbriette first announcing the news as she shared an Instagram story showing off a black diamond engagement ring on her left hand.

Sharing a snap of the ring with her 814,000 followers she wrote: "Marrying the 1975 is very brat @trumanblack" alluding to an album by Charli XCX.

Whilst Matty has yet to share his own announcement of the news, he later reposted the story from Gabbriette to his own social media account seemingly confirming the engagement.

The posts appear to have sent fans into a frenzy, with many fan accounts quickly resharing the Instagram stories from the pair.

Writing on Twitter/X, one person shared: "I feel like Matty Healy getting engaged just shifted something in my universe."

Another posted: "Matty healy announcing he’s engaged by posting 18 random memes to his story and then resharing Gabriette’s story of the ring with zero context is so matty coded."

A fourth wrote: "Witnessing matty healy going from kissing fans to dating taylor swift to all of the drama to being engaged is a whole other level of freak."

On Instagram, fan accounts have been rapidly resharing screenshots of the stories as one account wrote: "BRO IM CONFUSED I CANT TELL IF ITS A JOKE OR NOT OR EVEN WHAT THIS MEANSS."

Gabbriette appears to have been wearing the ring in pictures uploaded to her Instagram since June 1, with some fans speculating at the start of the month that the couple might be engaged.

On a post of Gabbriette posing at a DELEON Tequila in New York, one fan commented: "Is she engaged!!??"

"Is everyone seeing that huge rock on her left hand…..girl are you engaged???" said a third.

Matty and Gabbriette began dating last year in September, just months after Matty seemed to have a brief fling with singer Taylor Swift in May.

Earlier this year, Matty appeared to introduce Gabbriette to his family as she joined them to support his mum Denise Welch as she performed in a theatre tour in Manchester.

Gabbriette is a model and a musician, appearing as the the lead singer of punk rock band Nasty Cherry.
