Taylor Swift issues rare admission about her ‘rough’ breakups with Joe Alwyn and Matty Healy

She opened up about her former flames in her new Disney+ docuseries End of an Era

Taylor Swift has just issued a rare admission about her 'rough' breakups with Joe Alwyn and Matty Healy.

While she's set to tie the knot with her NFL star hubby Travis Kelce following their engagement back in August, Taylor previously dated Hamnet actor Joe for about six years.

The pair met back in 2016, and while they kept the relationship mostly private, it was one of the 36-year-old's longest romances until their split in early 2023.

Shortly after that breakup, Taylor was linked to the frontman of The 1975, Matty. They were seen together in mid-2023, but the relationship was brief, lasting only a few months before ending by June 2023.

In the summer of that same year, Taylor began a high-profile romance with Travis, making their relationship public around September 2023, much to the delight of Swifties across the globe.

In her newly-released Disney+ docuseries, End of an Era, Taylor shared: "I went through two breakups in the first half of this tour and that’s a lot of breakups, actually."

The 'Cruel Summer' singer noted that the show gave her 'purpose' and helped her 'get out of bed', despite the 's**t that was going on'.

"Men will let you down. The Eras Tour never will," she added.

During the doc, Taylor also opened up about what it was like recording her 11th album, The Tortured Poets Department, which had several references to both her former beaus, Joe and Matty.

She explained how the album was 'everything bad [she] felt for two years' and a 'rough time in [her] life'.

"The Tortured Poets Department is like this purge of just everything, everything bad that I felt for two years," Taylor said.

"Feeling like I'm not a person. I’m a big conglomerate no one sees as a human being, especially not the men that I date," she explained. "In the whole process, [I felt] nothing works, there is no one for me in the world."

Taylor went on to praise her crew and loved ones for supporting her through such a difficult time, saying: "It’s so wonderful being able to carry a professional family with you as you go through phases of life, as you go through ups and downs and heartbreaks."

End of an Era hit our screens earlier this month (12 December) with the final two episodes set to be released just before Christmas Eve (23 December).

Elsewhere in the doc, Taylor's mum Andrea Swift revealed that she was the one who set her and Travis up.

Andrea saw headlines about how Kelce had attended one of Swift's shows and wanted to give her a friendship bracelet with his phone number on.

"I called up my resident expert on the Chiefs, my cousin Robin. I said, 'Tell me about this guy Travis Kelce,' and she goes, 'Oh my God, he's the nicest guy, and he really loves his mum.'"

"I went, 'Ding ding ding,'" Andrea recalled. "But I said, 'How in the world will I get Taylor to meet him?'"

"I had been very non-athlete," Taylor admitted. "Because I'm not one, and what would we talk about? But you called me up and were like, 'Hey, I know you're going to not react well to this, but there's a guy...'

"You said something to the effect of, 'You've gotta start doing something different.'"

"Listen, it was so earnest, I thought it was the sweetest thing in the world that he came to your show, he brought you something from your world. To me, that said a lot," Andrea said. "I thought that was really sweet and I liked it."
