Taylor Swift to make VMA history as she receives new award
Taylor Swift has been nominated for a brand-new MTV VMA category one that, did not exist until this week.
The pop star is already the second-most nominated artist at this year’s ceremony, trailing only Madonna, who leads the pack with 13 nominations.
But with the ceremony still days away, Taylor can start making room for yet another Moon Person.
She is the inaugural recipient of the MTV VMA Artist Director Honors.

According to MTV and CBS, the shiny new honour is reserved for a musician whose work behind the camera has ‘expanded the possibilities of music video and advanced the art of visual.;
Exactly which videos earned Taylor the distinction remains somewhat unclear, although she has directed 15 of her own music videos, including “Anti-Hero”, “Bejeweled”, “Opalite” and “The Fate of Ophelia”.
In fact, since “The Man” in 2020, Taylor has directed herself in most of her music videos that followed.
While speaking about how she made “The Man”, she said it came out of ‘necessity’, during a 2022 interview with Variety.
“I was writing my videos for years and I had a video that was a very specific concept I had written which was that I wanted to be prosthetically turned into a man and live my life as a man and I wanted a female director to direct it and the few that I reached out to were fortunately booked.”
Her first self-directed clip arrived in 2010, for “Mine”.
The new honour will make Taylor the most-awarded artist in VMA history, breaking her current tie with Beyoncé, with both women currently sitting on 30 wins.
Beyoncé’s tally includes Video of the Year for “Formation”, the groundbreaking visual from her boundary-pushing album Lemonade.
Madonna has received 13 nominations for her critically acclaimed longform music video that accompanied her album Confessions II this summer.
One thing Swifites should look forward to is her acceptance speech. The pop sensation is known for making surprise announcements while accepting trophies and this year’s VMAs could follow suit.
Fans have kept their eyes peeled for an announcement after Taylor appeared in a skit inspired by Law & Order: SVU alongside the show’s star, Mariska Hargitay.
The clip, which aired during the 2026 Emmys, is filled with clues and Easter eggs and naturally, Swift’s fans are obsessing over what the clues could mean.
Theories range from a new album to a re-recording of her debut LP which arrived 20 years ago.
Being the first ever to win the MTV VMA Artist Director Honor could give Taylor, who married Travis Kelce this year in a star-studded wedding, the perfect chance to announce something big.
This week, fans spotted a change that was made to Taylor’s social media profiles.
In the description and bio sections, a quote has appeared that includes three prominent zeroes: “And, baby, that’s Sh0w business f0r y0u.”
The internet is already in a frenzy over the apparent clue and what it could mean.
