We all know that Sydney Sweeney isn't afraid to ruffle a few feathers and get people talking.
And now, the Euphoria star, 28, has been defended by fans after trolls called her out for her 'nude' outfit at the Variety Power of Women gala on Wednesday (29 October).
The Power of Women gala, which is hosted by Iliza Shlesinger at the Beverly Hills Hotel, celebrates accomplishments of five celebrity honourees handpicked by Variety, as well as other women who've been prominent throughout media and entertainment over the past year and also turned the spotlight towards important causes.
This year's honourees were Sydney, Kate Hudson, Wanda Sykes, Nicole Scherzinger and Jamie Lee Curtis.

And Sydney pulled out all the stops for the special day as she made a fashion statement and attended the event in a sheer silver sparkling dress by Christian Cowan and Elias Matso's spring 2026 collection.
Her dazzling gown cinched in at the waist and boasted a scooped neckline and mid-length sleeves.

As per Elle Magazine, the Anyone But You actress paired her showstopping look with diamond drop earrings and rings from EFFY Jewelry.

She also went braless to truly lean into the 'see-through' design - something that some people on social media have apparently found issue with.
One Instagram user wrote: "Look, as a 28 year old male, I love this. But morally, how is this allowed? There's children that see this. Let's be real, it's basically nudity."
While a second penned: "Might as well just go nude?" and a third wrote: "Why would she do that….cmon."
Others have rushed to defend the actress and slam those who are hating on her.

One person argued: "Good for her!! What’s crazy is all the people with the negative comments. Don’t like it? You don’t have to look at it. You would never? Well DON’T.
"Questioning her character as a woman. SHAME. I am so sick of the all the self righteous people on here to who are allegedly perfect. Do better."
While a second agreed: "I’m so happy she’s so bold I’m so sick of people hating on her."

Hitting back at those saying it's the same as a man going naked on the red carpet, a third wrote: "Why are we comparing male genitals to her breasts? That's not an equal comparison.
"Men have nips and breasts too and some have big ones... so this is just the fact that for men it's acceptable and for women it's sexualised and vulgar."
"If I looked like that I’d wear that too," someone else joked.
Sydney herself addressed the criticism she gets during an interview she did with Variety ahead of the event.

The actress said: "I play a lot of very divisive characters, and I think that a lot of people think they know me, but they don’t.
"When people think, ‘Ah, she’s a sex symbol,’ or ‘She’s leaning into that,’ I’m like, ‘No, I just feel good and I’m doing it for myself and I feel strong.’"
"I hope that I can inspire other women to be confident and just flaunt what they got and feel good because you shouldn’t have to apologise or hide or cover up in any room."
Tyla has contacted a representative for Sydney for comment.
