Reason why Kylie Jenner was chosen to wear Victoria’s Secret Fantasy Bra after decision sparks backlash
Victoria’s Secret has revealed why they controversially gave Kylie Jenner the honour of wearing the Fantasy Bra during her debut as an Angel.
On Sunday (18 October), the beauty mogul made a surprise appearance at the 2026 Victoria's Secret Fashion Show in Los Angeles, walking the runway in none other than the iconic piece of history.
The glitzy, diamond-encrusted bra is usually worn only by the brand's top supermodels and prominent Angels, such as Tyra Banks and Heidi Klum.
So, it caused quite a stir when Jenner strutted out wearing the centrepiece during her VS debut - not to mention, this is the most expensive Fantast Bra ever, worth a whopping $50 million.

Some longtime fans of the fashion show felt the bra, which hasn’t made an appearance in eight years, should have been worn by an original Angel.
However, Victoria's Secret chief creative officer Adam Selman revealed his reason for choosing the reality TV star - and it makes a lot of sense.
Speaking to Vogue, Selman said that Jenner was handpicked because she’s a ‘cultural powerhouse’ who ‘extends beyond fashion, beyond culture, beyond TV, beyond one singular thing’.
He outlined: “That’s the exact same thing that we do. Like, the show is so big, it’s true entertainment, and I think that she is a great catalyst for that.”
Selman questioned: “She’s really created her own culture, which - how many people can say that? I think it’s an interesting pairing that we’re giving the fans: we’re giving them what they want with this amazing Fantasy Bra, and we’re going to put it on an unexpected talent who has a massive following and massive cultural impact. I think it’s fun. I think it’s really joyful, and I think it’s fun to celebrate in a different way that people aren’t going to expect.”
Selman revealed that the Fantasy Bra was one of the things ‘that was requested the most’from last year’s show.
He recalled: “So we thought, OK, how do we do this in a really fun, excessive way? Because that’s what it is: a truly excessive piece of jewelry and artistry. It’s almost museum quality.”
The Fantasy Bra has a history stretching back three decades, so being chosen to wear it isn’t a decision that’s taken lightly.
The tradition started all the way back in 1996, when the debut style was worn by Claudia Schiffer and cost $1 million.
But, as we say, Jenner’s is the most expensive edition, by far. The second-most expensive design was Gisele Bündchen's Red Hot Fantasy Bra, which cost $15 million, $35 million less.
One X user wrote: “Imagine being one of the VS models and working out like an athlete, only for a nepo baby to buy her way on the runway. Wearing the fantasy bra no less. This was so insulting.”
While a second agreed: “Somewhere a model who trained for this since 2014 just watched the fantasy bra get handed to the Kardashian group chat.”
And a third wrote: “She looks amazing, but giving the Fantasy Bra to a veteran would’ve made more sense, honestly.”
But others are loving the unexpected choice, with one fan penning on social media: “Love it or hate it, she ate that up!!”
A second agreed: “I’m sorry, but I genuinely feel like Kylie Jenner has had a bigger influence on pop culture than Kim K. The impact she’s had on beauty trends, social media, and an entire generation is insane.”
And a third wrote: “You deserved this so bad Kylie! Wow! Really an angel!”
