Countless headlines were born following the news of Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas' impending divorce after four years of marriage - and now, Sophie has shared her side of the story, thanking Taylor Swift in particular for her support.

Actress Sophie, of Game of Thrones fame, and pop sensation Joe of the Jonas Brothers, share two daughters together.

The pair began their relationship in 2016, and had a Las Vegas wedding in 2019.

Ultimately, it ended when Joe, 34, filed for divorce in Miami in September 2023, with the filing stating that his marriage to Sophie, 28, was 'irretrievably broken'.

They then took to Instagram to share a joint statement which said they had “mutually decided to amicably end [their] marriage."

Soon after, vicious rumours began to crop up, accusing Sophie of being a bad wife and mother, or partying too much after pictures of her enjoying a drink with co-stars circulated.

Sophie has since opened up to Vogue about her ordeal in an attempt to set the record straight.

She said in the new interview: "I mean, those were the worst few days of my life. I remember I was on set, I was contracted to be on set for another two weeks, so I couldn’t leave.

"My kids were in the States and I couldn’t get to them because I had to finish Joan [a series she was filming]. And all these articles started coming out.

"It hurt because I really do completely torture myself over every move I make as a mother – mum guilt is so real! I just kept having to say to myself, ‘None of this is true. You are a good mum and you’ve never been a partier.'"

Reports then followed that Sophie, who moved back from the US to the UK last year, was suing Joe in an attempt to get her children returned to England after she alleged he was refusing to hand over their passports - though they have now reached a custody agreement.

Sophie commented: "There were some days that I didn’t know if I was going to make it. I would call my lawyer saying, ‘I can’t do this. I just can’t.'

"I was just never strong enough to stand up for myself. And then, finally, after two weeks of me being in a rut, she reminded me that it was my children I was fighting for.

“Once anyone says to me, ‘Do it for your kids,’ I’m doing it. I wouldn’t do it for myself, but I’ll find the strength for them.”

As for strength, Sophie has also shared where she managed to find it during that difficult time - and Taylor Swift gets a lot of thanks.

She said: "Taylor was an absolute hero to me this year."

It turns out that Sophie reached out to Taylor, a fellow ex-girlfriend of Joe's, in case she knew of anywhere she could rent. Taylor then offered her own place for free.

“I’ve never been more grateful to anyone than I am for her because she took my children and me, and provided us with a home and a safe space", Sophie said.

“She really has a heart of gold.”

Musing on the end of her marriage, Sophie concluded: "I’m unhappy with the way everything played out, especially when it comes to my children.

"They’re the victims in all of this. But I think we’re doing the best we can.

“I’m confident that we can figure it out. Joe is a great father to our children and that’s all that I can ask for.”
