Selena Gomez makes awkward mistake on stage whilst presenting award at BAFTAs

Selena Gomez made a bit of a slip-up while presenting an award at the BAFTAs.

This year, David Tennant was chosen to host the BAFTAs for the second time, as viewers watched film and TV greats win a plethora of prestigious awards.

It looks as if the Doctor Who star was having a whale of a time too, running around the auditorium singing 'I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles)' by The Proclaimers and having a few jokes here and there - though one harsh dig at Donald Trump got the chop.

Several famous faces also graced the stage, including Selena Gomez who was presenting the award for Outstanding Debut by a British Writer, Director or Producer, alongside Best Supporting Actress winner, Zoe Saldana, who she also co-starred with in Emilia Pérez.

However, things didn't seemingly go as smoothly as the star perhaps would have liked as she had a small fumble with the pronunciation of the winner.

Nominees in the category included the movies Santosh, Kneecap, Money Man, Hoard and Sister Midnight - with Irish film Kneecap taking the BAFTA home.

Zoe and Selena started off with a joke about what it takes to be nominated for the award, which - you guessed, was being a 'writer', 'British' and it being your 'debut'.

Prior to announcing the winner, Selena and Zoe both said: "You read it," before an awkward silence occurred.

Selena then whispered: "I don't know what it says."

But she quickly rescued the moment, announcing: "Sorry, Kneecap... Rich [Peppiatt]..."

Zoe won the award for Best Supporting Actress for Emilia Pérez, however, part of her speech was seemingly censored.

She was also quickly pulled off stage as she said: "Oh my god I'm getting a countdown. F**k f**k f**k!"

The BBC later revealed to LADbible that this was due in 'time constraints', adding: "As in previous years, due to the nature of the show it is broadcast with a short delay, and while we always aim to keep the core sentiment of acceptance speeches, edits have to be made due to time constraints."

However, the BAFTA's official YouTube account shared the actor's full speech, where she described herself as repeating her British friend's phrases such as 'gather' and 'of course', adding that she knew she was being a 'pain in the arse'.

She also dedicated her win to her nephew, Eli, adding: "He is the reason - they are the reason - I signed up to do this film in the first place. So as the proud aunt of a trans life, I will always stand with my community of trans people."
