Pete Davidson has broken his silence on Ariana Grande’s decision to take a ‘step back from visibility’ amid ‘endless, ongoing’ concern about her health and physique.
The 32-year-old—who recently welcomed his first child with his ex-girlfriend Elsie Hewitt—began dating the ‘Into You’ singer in 2018 after meeting on the set of Saturday Night Live years earlier.
The couple were even engaged; they moved in together in New York and famously got inked with matching tattoos.
However, their whirlwind romance fizzled out in October 2018. Grande, 33, later name-dropped the comedian in her song ‘Thank U, Next’ with lyrics that read: “Even almost got married / and for Pete, I’m so thankful.”
“We’re not texting or whatever, but we’re cool”
In a new interview with Variety, Davidson has spoken about his current relationship with the Wicked actress, claiming the pair are ‘cool’ despite their split.

“It’s something that comes up once in a while. But I think Ariana’s f***in’ cool and immensely talented and an awesome girl,” claimed the How to Rob a Bank actor.
“We’re not texting or whatever, but we’re cool.”

Davidson says Grande scrutiny is ‘f***ed up’
Elsewhere in the profile, the father of one discussed the rampant online abuse that Grande has received over the years regarding her weight.
“It’s not cool,” he lamented. “She’s a really strong person — I’ve witnessed it — and I don’t understand it.
“She knows how to handle this stuff though. She’s been around. So she’ll be OK, but I think it’s f***ed up.”
Reason Ariana Grande is taking a break
Davdison’s comments come months after a representative of the three-time Grammy winner explained Grande would be ‘taking a step back from visibility after she completes the Eternal Sunshine Tour’.
The shock announcement came amid news that she would also exit the now-sunk revival of Sunday in the Park with George in London.

“She looks forward to finishing the tour and ending it on a high note, both healthily and happily, and then taking a much-deserved break from public-facing work and appearances, which has led to endless, ongoing public scrutiny,” the spokesperson told People Magazine.
“This tour has been a beautiful experience for her. She loves her fans and has loved every minute of this tour so much.”
Grande's 'step back' decision was made 'a long time ago'
Grande touched upon the decision on stage in Chicago, telling fans: "The announcement that was made yesterday was not a reactive or impulsive thing. It is something that I had decided to plan... quietly, a long time ago.
“I heard my fans were worried negativity was ruining things for me but... that could not be more than the opposite.”
The Focker-In-Law star continued: “Boundaries need to be set, human beings do need a break sometimes.”
Grande claimed that ‘no matter what noises exist out there, nothing will ever be able to distort my reality, or be more real to me than this love that we share’.
“I love you, this is what I want always... the rest of that [stuff] is not mine to carry.”
