Pedro Pascal has become the latest A-lister to take legal action against a brand with a cheeky, familiar-sounding name.

The Game of Thrones actor, 51, is taking on a Chilean pisco merchant, David Herrera, who opted to call his drinks company Pedro Piscal.

For context, pisco, which is the country's national spirit, is unaged brandy made by distilling fermented Peruvian grape musts and juices to produce a yellowish-coloured drink.

As reported by The Guardian, Herrera registered the name with a Chilean commercial regulator back in 2023 and shortly after began selling the product off-licences and restaurants.

However, the company found itself receiving some 'strongly worded emails from lawyers,' which left the founder 'scared'.

He told the publication: "We tried a few names, and Pedro Piscal stuck. Then we were planning a trip up to the Pisco region when suddenly we were getting strongly worded emails from lawyers.

"Me, a mere mortal, getting emails from a superstar actor? It scared me a bit."

But, he declared: "I don’t regret it for a moment. We don’t use [Pascal’s] face or his likeness anywhere. We’re just selling a good product."

Pascal was born in Santiago, Chile, but his family left when he was just a baby, due to the situation in the country under Augusto Pinochet's government.

He currently lives in Los Angeles, California, and went on to become a household name, starring in TV shows including The Last of Us, The Mandalorian, and Narcos, to name just a few.

The actor filed the legal action based on the drink brand's name being similar to his own moniker and brand.

Herrera argues the name's inspiration actually has nothing to do with the A-list actor.

According to the outlet, he said that he and his cousins enjoy drinking a piscola, which is pisco paired with Coca-Cola over ice, and they would call it a piscal.

As for Pedro, this apparently came from a grape variety - the Pedro Ximénez - from which the popular spirit is distilled.

A managing partner at the legal firm representing Pascal, Juan Pablo Silva, told The Guardian that he couldn't comment on the ongoing case.

However, he allegedly pointed out initial rulings that transferred ownership of two online domains from Herrera to Pascal.

Reportedly, Pascal has also successfully trademarked his name, which is why lawyers are optimistic that a final decision could be reached before the end of the year.

It comes after other huge name celebrities, such as Katy Perry and Taylor Swift, have also been involved in similar legal cases involving brand names recently.

Tyla has contacted representatives for Pedro Pascal for comment.
