Miley Cyrus has bravely opened up about the 'traumatic' health scare that almost ended her music career.
Back in 2023, the 32-year-old 'Flowers' singer suffered quite the ordeal while she was co-hosting 'Miley’s New Year’s Eve Party' with her godmother Dolly Parton.
And, on Wednesday (21 May), Miley sat down on The Zane Lowe Show podcast where she discussed carrying on with the show despite the 'medical emergency' she endured at the time.

"I had a pretty traumatic experience on a show that I was doing with [Lorne Michaels] when I was doing my New Year’s show," she said.

"I had a medical emergency. I had an ovarian cyst rupture. We didn’t know exactly what was going on so we did it."
The Grammy award-winner continued: "It was pretty traumatic because it was extremely excruciating and I did the show anyway.

"But it was really really hard on me."
According to the Mayo Clinic, ovarian cysts are common as 'many women have ovarian cysts at some time' and most 'present little or no discomfort and are harmless'.
With that said, however, large or ruptured cysts 'can cause serious symptoms', including severe pelvic pain and bleeding, fullness or heaviness in the abdomen and bloating.
And, in rare cases, a ruptured ovarian cyst may require surgery.

The 'traumatic' experience was so bad that Miley even thought about retiring from music altogether.
However, SNL's Lorne Michaels, who executive produced the holiday special where she endured the health scare, was fortunately able to talk her down.
"I had dinner with Lorne and he said something that now has stuck with me," the pop icon revealed. "He goes, 'Six months - everybody has six months to feel sorry for themselves and then we start to rebuild.'"

He told Miley that 'everyone does this,' recalling a number of artists who told him the same thing over the years, and she eventually came to the realisation that music 'will quit me before I ever quit it'.
And, just like that, she got back to it and started recording her new album titled Something Beautiful which is set to drop later this month (30 May).
"This album has to start with me loving it, and then the love that I have for it, whether you know it or not, it's gonna be coming through the speakers when you're listening," she shared with fans at a preview screening of her upcoming visual album in New York City a few weeks back (6 May),

Talking about the appreciation she has for her fans, Miley continued: "People say we grew up together, and we really did. And it's definitely what makes, I think, this film so magical and so potent is that all of us have kind of created it together, and it's cool to be in a room full of people I've never met, you know, or strangers, and, you know, you're not that strange.
"We're all a little strange, but that's what I think has made all of us really, kind of hold on to the relationship that we have."
