Amid the ‘toxic mom’ drama, Meghan Trainor welcomed a baby girl to her family, and a critic is being dragged online for a comment calling it ‘gross’.

The pop star has had a rough couple of weeks after High School Musical’s Ashley Tisdale went on to release an explosive claim about a celebrity mum group she was part of.

Tisdale, 40, wrote an essay in The Cut on New Year's Day, where she talked about 'breaking up with' a group of 'toxic moms' who she claims made her feel like she was 'in high school'.

She didn't name anyone, but said she joined the group after she had her first daughter, Jupiter Iris French, in March 2021.

Internet sleuths eventually determined that the group Tisdale was affiliated with around that time including Mandy Moore, Trainor, and Hilary Duff.

Trainor seemed to respond to the implication in a TikTok video, as did Duff’s husband, Matthew Koma, who publicly weighed in online by posting a mock version of her photoshoot and article on Instagram.

But now that Trainor announced the birth of her daughter, Mikey Moon Trainor on 18 January via surrogacy, she’s being defended from trolls for a whole other reason.

On Reddit, one person weighed in on the whole thing, sharing that they felt ‘gross’ about one thing.

They wrote: “Maybe I am too woke when it comes to surrogacy but the superwoman who carried her child can’t even get a proper ‘thank you’ feels gross.”

To this, people were quick to defend the singer, with one writing: “I'm not sure why you think the surrogate didn't get a proper thank you. That would've more than likely been private. I wouldn't expect her to be named in the post due to privacy. Plenty of celebs have kids via surrogate and don't even mention they had a surrogate. They just go from obviously not pregnant to suddenly welcoming a baby.”

Another lamented: “It’s possible the surrogate asked not to be named or included in social media posts. But maybe I’m giving too much credit here.”

However, there were few who had thoughts on surrogacy as a whole, with one person writing: “Surrogacy has a place for sure (pls hear that again!) but a lot of the time it feels really elitist and unethical to me. I’m not sure exactly how to say it but it just feels really dystopian and like… only accessible for the wealthiest people. Idk, whatever lol we’re on a floating rock I’m just sayin.”

However, most agreed that Trainor had thanked the surrogate for her services in the announcement post, as she shared with her fans that day: “Our baby girl Mikey Moon Trainor has finally made it to the world thanks to our incredible, superwoman surrogate. We are forever grateful to all the doctors, nurses, teams who made this dream possible.

"We had endless conversations with our doctors in this journey and this was the safest way for us to be able to continue growing our family."

She added: "We are over the moon in love with this precious girl."

"Riley and Barry have been so excited, they even got to choose her middle name. We are going to enjoy our family time now, love you all," she wrote.
