Maya Jama breaks silence on claims she is back with ex Stormzy

Maya Jama has shut down speculation that she and ex-boyfriend Stormzy are back together, after one Instagram post sent fans into a bit of a spiral.

The 32-year-old Love Island presenter recently shared a clip of herself singing along to Stormzy’s song 'One Second' in a car, sparking internet speculation that the pair had reunited.

Maya has now addressed the rumours directly, making it clear that there is no secret reconciliation happening behind the scenes.

Sharing a post about the speculation on X on Thursday (24 September), she wrote with two laughing emojis: "I like the song. We have always been friends. No one is back together, rest with the theories."

Responding to the post, one fan praised: "And that’s how you shut down a rumour!"

A second gushed: "This is why I love this lady! Straight!"

And a third chimed in: "Tell them Maya!"

Maya and Stormzy, 33, have one of the most well-known on-off histories in British celebrity culture.

The pair first met in 2014 and began dating shortly afterwards but decided to part ways in 2019.

Things took an unexpected turn in 2023 when the pair were spotted holidaying together, eventually confirming they had decided to give their relationship another go.

Their second attempt lasted around a year before they announced in July 2024 that they had split for good.

In a joint statement at the time, they said they had 'tried' but ultimately decided the relationship wasn't working, while stressing that they still cared deeply about one another and would remain friends.

The full statement read: "It read: "Hey guys, we've been laughing whilst drafting this because we never, ever, in a million years thought we'd be the couple announcing a breakup, but for the sake of clarity and, more importantly, to allow us the space and grace that's needed for us both to be able to navigate this next bit of our lives with peace, we thought it might be best to.

"We fell madly in love in 2014, broke up in 2019, and then spent five years manoeuvring life apart.

"We decided to try for the final time in August 2023, and we've spent this past year trying our best to make it work; however, we recently decided to call it quits.

"We were 21 and 20 when we first met-both at the beginning of our careers-and spent five years growing together and then five years growing separately, so this final attempt required a whole lot of figuring out, relearning, and unlearning.

"We tried, and it didn't work, and that's okay."

The statement explained that while the pair 'still think the world of each other' they are moving forward as friends.

They also warned fans about 'causing a fuss' if they're spotted out and about as friends.

"We still think the absolute world of each other, we still care and respect each other, we are still grateful for the time we've had together, and we are still friends and will always be friends (so if you see us having a lil catch-up at The Brits or something, don't cause a fuss, we are dawgs!)," it continued.

"Announcing this feels so dramatic, but we're doing it so that it kind of takes away the drama and avoids speculation and rumours.

"We're kindly asking for the grace to let both of us keep it moving and not be bothered about it (we highly doubt this'll work, but we're still kindly asking anyway)."

Since then, both have moved on romantically.

Maya went on to date Manchester City footballer Rúben Dias. Their relationship began in 2025 and ended in spring 2026, with Maya confirming the split publicly in June. She is currently understood to be single.

Stormzy, meanwhile, was linked to Grammy-winning singer Victoria Monét after the pair were pictured together in 2024. He later appeared to reference a new mystery relationship in his 2025 track ‘Sorry Rach!’, although the identity of the woman was never publicly confirmed.
