At least one arrest has been made in connection with the death of Friends actor Matthew Perry, law enforcement sources have confirmed to US press.

In October 2023, the 54-year-old actor was discovered unresponsive at his home in Pacific Palisades, LA, and was pronounced dead at the scene.

A post-mortem examination concluded that Perry died from the 'acute effects of ketamine', while also listing contributing factors that included 'drowning, coronary artery disease and the effects of buprenorphine'.

His death was also ruled as being accidental.

However, back in May, the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) confirmed it had launched a joint police investigation into the circumstances of his death.

NBC reports that an arrest was made in Southern California today, also citing law enforcement sources.

The outlet said Perry had been undergoing ketamine infusion therapy to treat depression and anxiety, but that his last session had taken place more than a week before his death.

TMZ reported that 'multiple' arrests have been made, saying several law enforcement agencies have executed search warrants and seized computers, phones and other electronic equipment.

Officers from LAPD previously revealed they would be continuing to collaborate with the Drug Enforcement Administration on the 'open investigation', following the medical examiner's initial assertions.

Reports suggested the process would aim to enquire into how Perry obtained the general anaesthetic.

At the end of June, People reported that the investigation was 'nearing its conclusion’, according to a law enforcement investigative source.

The source told the outlet that police believe ‘multiple people’ should be charged over his death, adding that the US Attorney’s Office will ultimately make the decision on whether or not to press charges.

Perry had been open with fans about his substance abuse, addiction and mental health issues.

After his death, a foundation was set up in his memory to help others facing similar struggles.

In a statement, the organisation said: "The Matthew Perry Foundation is the realisation of Matthew's enduring commitment to helping others struggling with the disease of addiction.

"It will honour his legacy and be guided by his own words and experiences and driven by his passion for making a difference in as many lives as possible."

The website also quotes Perry, saying: "When I die, I don't want Friends to be the first thing that's mentioned - I want helping others to be the first thing that's mentioned and I'm going to live the rest of my life proving that.

"Addiction is far too powerful for anyone to defeat alone. But together, one day at a time, we can beat it down."
