Mariah Carey’s ex-boyfriend Bryan Tanaka confirms split from singer

Mariah Carey’s ex-boyfriend Bryan Tanaka confirms split from singer

He confirmed the sad news in a statement on Instagram

Mariah Carey’s ex-boyfriend, Bryan Tanaka, has confirmed his split from the singer, following speculation that the couple had gone their separate ways.

Last week, reports surfaced that 54-year-old Carey and professional dancer Tanaka, 40, had decided to call it quits.

Fans began to wonder if things were on the rocks for the couple after realising Tanaka's noticeable absence from a number of high-profile events that Carey had attended, including the Billboard Music Awards on 20 November.

People also realised the pair weren’t posting about each other on social media, and that they weren’t featuring in any pictures with one another online.

Tongues were also wagging when Tanaka was nowhere to be seen as Carey was spotted on her annual visit to Aspen, Colarado.

An anonymous source told Page Six that that gossip was sadly true, claiming their seven-year relationship ended because Bryan had wanted children, but mum-of-two Carey was happy as she is.

The source said: "He wants to have a family. That's not where she is at."

Tanaka has now confirmed the split himself, saying in a statement on Instagram that he and Carey had ‘amicably’ split up.

“With mixed emotions, I share this personal update regarding my amicable separation from Mariah Carey after seven extraordinary years together,” Tanaka wrote.

“Our decision to embark on different paths is mutual, and as we navigate these separate journeys, we do so with profound respect and an overwhelming sense of gratitude for the invaluable time we’ve shared.

“The memories we’ve created and the artistic collaborations are etched in my heart forever.

“Mariah’s dedication to her family and her commitment to her craft have inspired us during our shared journey.

“I want to express my love and appreciation for Mariah and her incredible children, whose warmth and kindness have enriched my life in ways words cannot capture.”

The couple had been together since October 2016, having known each other since Tanaka joined her 2006 'The Adventures of Mimi' tour as a backup dancer.

Tanaka asked for privacy as he and Carey traversed the 'sensitive' situation, also thanking people for their support so far.

“During this sensitive time, I kindly ask you for your understanding, privacy and respect," he said.

“The outpouring of love and support from fans has been a beacon of strength, and I am extremely grateful for the encouragement that continues to uplift me.

“I eagerly anticipate continuing my journey, knowing my passion for inspiration, dance and the creative arts will resonate in the unfolding chapters."
