Kristen Stewart has opened up about her plans to leave the United States, joining the growing list of fellow A-listers who have left the country.
The 35-year-old actress and director spoke to The Times about filming the upcoming drama, The Chronology of Water, in Latvia because 'it would have been impossible to do in the [US]'.
During the interview, which saw the Twilight star also open up about where else she could see herself living, Stewart referred to US President Donald Trump's politics, specifically referring to the tariffs he is seeking to impose on the film industry for shooting outside of the States.
"Reality is breaking completely under Trump," she said. While such tariffs are yet to be rolled out, Stewart added that the prospect was still 'terrifying'.

She continued: "But we should take a page out of his book and create the reality we want to live in."
The outlet reported that Stewart currently splits her time between Los Angeles and New York, but, when asked if she would stay in the US, the actress said: "Probably not."
Trump has frequently repeated his threat to impose a 100 percent tariff on all movies not made in the US, claiming the American industry had been 'stolen' by other countries.
"Our movie making business has been stolen from the United States of America, by other Countries, just like stealing 'candy from a baby'," he wrote on Truth Social last September. "California, with its weak and incompetent Governor, has been particularly hard hit! Therefore, in order to solve this long time, never ending problem, I will be imposing a 100% Tariff on any and all movies that are made outside of the United States. Thank you for your attention to this matter. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN! President DJT."

"I can’t work freely there. But I don’t want to give up completely," she admitted. "I’d like to make movies in Europe and then shove them down the throat of the American people."
Stewart added: "It’s how I relate to the world. I’m always going, 'How are we going to make that into a movie?'"
Tyla has reached out to the White House for comment on Stewart's remarks.
If she does end up leaving the States, Stewart would become the latest celeb to have either considered fleeing the nation or have left altogether.
Angelina Jolie

Girl, Interrupted star Angelina Jolie is reportedly weighing up a move abroad.
According to People, she is considering 'several locations abroad' and has already put her Los Angeles mansion on the market.
Sources say she 'never wanted to live in LA full time' but had to stay put until her divorce from Brad Pitt was finalised. One insider claimed that she 'plans to relocate as soon as Knox and Viv turn 18 next year' and that she will be 'very happy when she’s able to leave Los Angeles'.
Jolie bought the historic home in 2017 for a reported $24.5 million. It was built in 1913 and once belonged to Cecil B. DeMille. She and Pitt also previously owned a $60 million estate in France.

Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi

Ellen DeGeneres and her wife, Portia de Rossi, quietly relocated to the UK a year or so ago, settling in the Cotswolds in November 2024.
Speaking to Richard Bacon, DeGeneres said: "Yes. We got here the day before the election and woke up to lots of texts from our friends with crying emojis, and I was like, 'He got in.' And we’re like, 'We’re staying here.'"
An anonymous source later told The Wrap the couple would 'never return' to the US.
Ellen also told a crowd in Cheltenham that life in the UK 'is just better' and said the US can be 'scary for people to be who they are'.
Courtney Love

San Francisco-born Courtney Love has made it clear she plans to stay put in the UK and has revealed she is in the process of getting British citizenship and described the US as 'frightening now'.
Speaking at the Royal Geographical Society in London, she said: "In terms of Trump, and particularly this group... It’s like emperor-core. Like, [they ’re] wearing million-dollar watches.
"Emperor-core is going on at Mar-a-Lago. It’s frightening now. It’s like cyanide now."
She added: "I’m really glad I’m here. It’s so great to live here. I’m finally getting my British citizenship in six months. I get to be a citizen. I’m applying, man! Can’t get rid of me!"
Love has also praised the UK’s stricter privacy laws, particularly after her experiences in the US following her late husband Kurt Cobain’s death.
Rosie O’Donnell

Rosie O’Donnell has moved to Ireland with her 12-year-old adopted child, Clay, who is non-binary.
The relocation happened in January 2025, just days before Trump was sworn in.
"I miss many things about life there at home and I’m trying to find a home here in this beautiful country and when it is safe for all citizens to have equal rights there in America, that’s when we will consider coming back," she explained on TikTok at the time.
Speaking to The New York Times, O’Donnell added: "I never thought he would win again, but I said, ‘If he does, I’m going to move,’ and my therapist said, ‘Well, let’s make a real plan’."
In the final weeks of the campaign, she took practical steps."
"I got my passport renewed, I got Clay’s passport renewed," she said.
Asked if she could see any good in Trump, her answer was blunt: "None."
Eva Longoria

Eva Longoria was one of the first stars to say she had left the US, now splitting her time between Spain and Mexico.
She told Marie Claire: "If he keeps his promises, it’s going to be a scary place."
The actress added: "I’m privileged, I get to escape and go somewhere.
"Most Americans aren’t so lucky. They’re going to be stuck in this dystopian country, and my anxiety and sadness is for them."
However, Longoria later clarified her comments.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, during a recording of The View: Behind The Table podcast she called her co-host Ana Navarro.
When Navarro answered, Longoria pleaded: "Will you please let them know I didn’t move out of Spain because of [Donald] Trump."
"I’ve been in Europe working for almost three years," she explained. "By the way, the [Marie Claire] article says that. People just grabbed some clickbait stuff to be divisive, which makes me so sad, you know. Everything you say is just meant to be divisive when we can’t be that way right now."
Navarro queried: "But you did tell me that living in Europe had been like shutting off the noise."
Insisting it was because of work, Eva responded: "That’s why I’m in Europe. I didn’t leave because of the political environment. I left because my work took me there.”
America Ferrera

America Ferrera is also reportedly considering a move, with the Daily Mail previously claiming she had been scouting schools in London with a view to relocating.
A source said she was 'sick' and 'completely devastated' after Trump’s win over Kamala Harris. Another insider said she was seeking the 'best opportunities possible' and was 'prioritising her life and focusing on the importance for her kids'.
Hello! Magazine also reported that she appeared to be planning a move to south-west London.
"She has been checking out the local private school for her children," a source said, adding that she was seen at an open day in Barnes and 'appeared very happy with what she saw'.
Tyla reached out to Ferrera's reps for comment.
Barbra Streisand

Barbra Streisand was crystal clear about her intentions ahead of the election.
Speaking to Stephen Colbert, she said: "I would move. I can’t live here under an administration like that."
Streisand has long been outspoken about Trump, previously telling The Guardian: "I can’t bear the man!"
"He’s a man with no manners! He doesn’t see his own flaws; he doesn’t know what he doesn’t know. You know? He has no humility," she added.
She finished with a stark warning: "This is a dangerous time in this nation, this republic: a man who is corrupt and indecent and is assaulting our institutions. It’s really, really frightening."
