Kim K’s cursed collection explained as haunting detail raises concerns
Kim Kardashian could practically open a museum with the clothes and accessories in her collection.
The SKIMS founder, 45, has amassed an impressive wardrobe filled with archival pieces from iconic designers, as well as garments and jewellery once worn by some of the most famous and beloved figures in history.
Her collection includes treasures associated with Princess Diana, Michael Jackson, and Elvis Presley, alongside vintage creations from fashion houses such as Mugler and Dior, including designs by legendary designer John Galliano.
People are fascinated by the number of pieces Kardashian has collected from, or worn once worn by, Hollywood legends, including several stars who are no longer alive. Her connection to these iconic pieces has even sparked a darker side of the online commentary, with one person on Reddit quipping, “Marilyn is haunting her house as we speak.” Another critiqued one of her looks as “a total miss,” while a third joked, “Lowkey think this dress cursed Kim.”

Kardashian has a particular penchant for auctions, where she has acquired some of her most prized possessions. In January 2023, she made headlines after purchasing Princess Diana’s vintage amethyst cross necklace for nearly $200,000.
The All’s Fair star’s collection also includes a velvet jacket once worn by Michael Jackson during Elizabeth Taylor’s 65th birthday celebration in 1997.
Her fascination with celebrity memorabilia extends to the King of Rock and Roll. Kardashian reportedly paid $8,000 each for a pair of yellow-gold rings worn by Elvis Presley in 1975.
Another remarkable piece in Kardashian’s collection is a watch once worn by former First Lady, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis. Made by Cartier Paris in 1962, the watch was gifted to Kennedy by her brother-in-law, Prince Stanisław Radziwill, after the family completed the famous Fifty-Mile Hike in Palm Beach in 1963. Now that’s what you call a present.
The watch would eventually make its way into Kardashian’s collection many years later. In 2017, TMZ reported that the reality star had paid around $379,500 for the timepiece. It was later put on public display when the watch was exhibited at the V&A in London, where a plaque confirmed that it was owned by Kardashian. The piece is engraved with the date February 23, 1963.
But perhaps the most memorable, and controversial, archive fashion moment is a dress originally worn by Marilyn Monroe. The reality star famously documented the experience on her show, The Kardashians, after being loaned the iconic gown by Ripley’s Believe It or Not!
The crystal-covered dress was worn by Monroe when she famously sang “Happy Birthday, Mr. President” to President John F. Kennedy in 1962. Kardashian’s decision to wear the historic garment to the 2022 Met Gala sparked widespread criticism.
Kim admitted earlier this year that she still thinks about the look four years later, but not for the reason you may think.
Despite the controversy surrounding her decision to wear the dress, the beauty mogul says her biggest regret was her hair that night.
She said: “If someone’s like, ‘what’s your biggest regret in life?’ you’d think a lot of other things...
“We had too much going on. You were doing every family member,” she admonished her team, hairstylist Chris Appleton and makeup artist Mario Dedivanovic. “We weren’t focused.”
Looking back at photographs from the evening, Kardashian was even more blunt about the result. Pulling up a photo, she said, “Everyone f--ked up here. Let’s just say that.”
In the same vlog, she continued: “It was all about the hair. I’ll fight you on that until the day I die.
“I think about it once a week,” she said.
Kim had originally pushed for a wig that would make her look as close to Monroe as possible, but was eventually persuaded to take the more dramatic route: dyeing her own dark hair platinum blonde and styling it into a sleek bun.
At the time, however, she had been warned against recreating Monroe’s signature hairstyle too closely.
“Everyone was telling me, ‘Don’t do Marilyn hair because you’ll look like a wax figure of her,’” she was cautioned.
