Kai Trump’s University of Miami golf season has been disrupted after she underwent wrist surgery, she has announced.
President Donald Trump’s granddaughter, 19, posted the news on Wednesday in an Instagram post showing her sporting a brave smile from her hospital bed – and her arm in a cast after surgery, reported Page Six.
She explained she injured herself during the first tournament of the season: “While I had hoped to avoid surgery, after talks with my family, coaches, and athletic training staff I know I made the best decision for my long-term health and my future in the game I love.”
She added, “It’s certainly not how I envisioned the next few months, but sometimes the journey takes an unexpected turn, and I’m choosing to embrace this one with patience, and a whole lot of determination.”

She thanked the ‘amazing’ people she had around her and acknowledged that her recovery would ‘take time’.
She wrote, “Having the right people by your side makes all the difference, and I couldn’t be more grateful.”
She singled out surgeon Dr Michelle Carlson, from Manhattan’s Hospital for Special Surgery, for special praise.

“For now, it’s all about healing, and trusting the process. I can’t wait to be back with my team, doing what I love. I’ll be back before you know it, stronger and more grateful than ever!” she added.
Trump started her freshman year two hours away from home in Jupiter, Florida - at the University of Miami in August.
The New York Post reported Trump injured herself in September competing in the Golfweek Fall Challenge – and she shared details at the time on her Instagram account.
“Let’s just say there must have been some cart path underneath that ground because it was very hard. Hit it, it felt like a shock on my arm,” Trump said.

“Then on the 10th hole, I hit my driver, and I felt like I tore it again,” she said, referring to her injury in a similar location in January.
Trump confirmed medics had found a ‘little sliver’ of injury to her ligaments and was being treated with stem cell therapy by Dr Jeffrey Wiegers.
The golf champ has been having a tough time over the past months, with her mother, Vanessa Trump having been diagnosed with breast cancer earlier in the year, and the teenager reportedly expressing her sadness at having to leave home for college.
However, in an interview with Page Six during the ESPY Awards, she said her mother was ‘doing better’ during the second phase of her cancer treatment.
