Jimmy Kimmel wants Donald Trump on his show but it’s probably not going to happen

Could the beef between Jimmy Kimmel and Donald Trump be about to end?

It seems that anything is possible as Jimmy Kimmel has revealed he would 'love to have' Donald Trump on his show, in a wild turn of events that no one saw coming.

For those not in the loop, while they've never seen eye to eye, Kimmel and Trump butted heads especially dramatically last month and the public fallout made worldwide news.

On 10 September, Jimmy Kimmel Live! was temporarily taken off the air by ABC following the fatal shooting of political activist Charlie Kirk at a college campus in Utah.

This was because of a segment addressing the shooting, in which Kimmel made comments about MAGA (Trump's Make America Great Again movement) supposedly attempting to gain 'political points' from Kirk's passing, as well as poking fun at Trump's unexpected remarks about the construction of the White House's ballroom when asked how he was holding up after the activist's death.

Kimmel joked: "He’s at the fourth stage of grief: construction. This is not how an adult grieves the murder of someone he called a friend. This is how a four-year-old mourns a goldfish, OK?"

And he later said: "We hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterise this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it."

After the show was pulled, Trump brutally suggested that if any TV networks only give him bad press personally, 'maybe their licence should be taken away'.

He penned on Truth Social: "Great News for America: The ratings-challenged Jimmy Kimmel Show is CANCELLED. Congratulations to ABC for finally having the courage to do what had to be done.

"Kimmel has ZERO talent, and worse ratings than even Colbert, if that’s possible. That leaves Jimmy and Seth, two total losers, on Fake News NBC. Their ratings are also horrible. Do it NBC!!! President DJT."

So, as you can see, we don't think anybody thought a Trump appearance on Kimmel's talk show would be on the cards.

Well, last week, Bloomberg’s Lucas Shaw asked Kimmel: "Since you came back have you asked Trump or Carr to come on?"

For those who don't know, Brendan Carr is the chair of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), who said he wanted broadcasters to 'take action' on Kimmel.

The chat show host replied: "No, I haven't. I wouldn't necessarily be interested in Brendan Carr on the show but yeah, I'd love to have Trump on the show, for sure."

He went on to joke: "Alright, I'll ask him," which earned laughter and cheering from the crowd.

However, despite Kimmel's unexpected - and possibly sarcastic - willingness, it looks like the crossover is going to be very unlikely if the White House's response is anything to go by.

When contacted by Page Six on the matter, a representative shut down any possibility pretty quickly.

White House rep Abigail Jackson said: "Reacting to anything Jimmy Kimmel says would require me to watch his show and I have much more entertaining things to do, like watch paint dry." Ouch.
