Elon Musk facing backlash after revealing meaning behind two of his kids' unique names

The Tesla CEO shares 14 children with four different women

With a name like Elon Musk, it's hardly a surprise that the controversial billionaire seemed to have a preference for more abstract monikers when it came to naming his own children.

Remember when he and musician ex-girlfriend Grimes hit international headlines back in 2020 for giving their newborn son the title, 'X Æ A-Xii', and no one had a scooby how to pronounce it?

Well, it turns out, it wasn't just little 'X' - as the five-year-old is nicknamed - that Musk chose to provide with a rather peculiar name.

As a reminder, when he and ex-wife, author Justine Wilson, first became parents, South Africa-born Musk kept things pretty low-key welcoming sons Griffin, 21, triplets Kai, Saxon and Damian, all 20, and transgender daughter Vivian, 21. The couple's first child, a son named Nevada, sadly died in 2002 at 10 weeks old.

He and Grimes' son X also has a sister named Exa Dark Sideræl, four, and a brother, Techno Mechanicus Musk, three.

With Neuralink executive Shivon Zilis, Musk welcomed four children, including daughter Arcadia, one, and son Seldon Lycurgus, and with short-term love interest Ashley St. Clair, he has a son, Romulus, born in 2024.

The 54-year-old father-of-14 also took to social media this week to reveal the meaning behind the names he gave to his other two children with Zilis.

Taking to his own company X (formerly known as Twitter), the Tesla CEO shared a sweet photo alongside two more of his children, a son and a daughter, as they explored his SpaceX headquarters.

"Me with my son, Strider Sekhar (named after Aragorn & great Indian physicist Chandrasekhar) and daughter, Comet Azure, named after the most powerful spell in Elden Ring," Musk captioned the snap.

Unsurprisingly, for a number of users seemingly unaware of Musk's taste for avant-garde names, the news came as a bit of a shock.

"Wtf are these names," one X user questioned in response.

Another begged: "Come on Elon, names are very powerful, please don't name your precious daughter after a spell? Please sir."

"I love your work, but your child naming..." a third added.

A fourth simply hit out: "Lmfao you're such a f****n nerd."

Others, however, were pleasantly surprised by the choices, with one gushing: "Beautiful naming choices blending culture, science, and gaming! Aragorn's wisdom, Chandrasekhar's genius, Elden Ring's power your children carry legacies of heroism and brilliance.

"Creative parenting at its finest!"
