Following reports that Britney Spears and Sam Asghari are set to divorce, a prenup joke made by the model has resurfaced... and Britney fans aren't happy.

The 29-year-old reportedly ‘filed for divorce’ from Spears after just 14 months of marriage, with the pair having tied the knot back in June last year.

However, it seems a quip Asghari made about getting prenup hasn't aged very well in light of the news.

While nothing has been confirmed by the couple, rumours have been circulating in the last few months about their marriage.

On the day of their supposed ‘split’, the princess of pop was seen driving through Los Angeles without her wedding ring.

Sadly, it seems like the warning signs were there even before the couple wed with Sam making a joke about them having an ‘iron clad’ prenup on Instagram.

Posted as part of a story back in September 2021, the Iranian-American model added two laughing emojis and wrote: “Thank you everyone who is concerned about the prenup! Of course we’re getting [an] iron clad prenup to protect my jeep and shoe collection in case she dumps me one day.”

With speculation about the couple at an all-time high, it’s no surprise that the joke has resurfaced on social media.

In fact, one tweet which shared a screenshot of the Instagram story has been seen over 26,000 times, with Spears’ fans reacting angrily in the comments.

After seeing the screenshot of the joke, many have argued it should be brought up in the couple’s reported divorce settlement.

“So is this Instagram post going to be brought up in these proceedings? I sure hope so," wrote one fan.

Others have hit out at Asghari for making the joke in the first place, with another adding, ‘He knew what he was doing’ and a third commenting: “Ughhh bad vibes.”

While there are few confirmed details about the couple’s reported divorce, there could be a huge legal battle – according to one expert.

TMZ claimed that Asghari’s lawyer, Neal Hersh, has included a clause in the divorce filing that reads: "[Sam] has yet to determine the full nature and extent of the separate property assets and obligations of each party.

"There are various items of community and quasi-community assets and debts, the full nature and extent of which are unknown to [Sam] at this time."

Tyla has reached out to Spears and Asghari's representatives for comment.
