Britney Spears has made a rather unexpected announcement following the rumours that her husband Sam Asghari has filed for divorce.
Various US media outlets, including People and TMZ, have reported that the actor has officially lodged documents to end his marriage to the pop princess.
Sam, 29, married Britney, 41, in June last year with celebrations at her home in Thousand Oaks, California, with celebrities such as Paris Hilton, Selena Gomez and Drew Barrymore in attendance.
The pair first met on set of Britney’s music video for ‘Slumber Party’ in 2016.

TMZ have also claimed that Sam is citing ‘irreconcilable differences’ for the split.
And while rumours spiral around the details of their relationship, Britney’s posts on Instagram seems to be totally unrelated – and a little unpredictable.
The mum-of-two shared a snap of herself riding a horse on the beach, revealing that she’s planning on buying herself one.
Smiling in her bikini top and shorts, she wrote in the caption: “Buying a horse soon!!! So many options it’s kinda hard!!! A horse called Sophie and another called Roar???
“I can’t make up my mind!!! Should I join the camaraderie and put a pink cowboy hat on??? Either way I think I found my sweet spot with Roar!!!”
The comments are switched off on Britney's Instagram account, but she has not yet addressed the reported split.
It’s also been claimed that the pair had signed a pretty tight prenuptial agreement before they tied the knot last summer.
The ‘iron clad’ prenup is supposed to protect the ‘…Baby One More Time’ singer’s pre-marital assets. However, there could be a major legal showdown ahead.
According to the Daily Mail, alleged court documents show Sam is asking the star for spousal support and to cover his attorney fees.
TMZ also claim that, according to these court documents, Asghari's lawyer, Neal Hersh could contest their prenup.
"[Sam] has yet to determine the full nature and extent of the separate property assets and obligations of each party." the response reportedly said.
"There are various items of community and quasi-community assets and debts, the full nature and extent of which are unknown to [Sam] at this time."
Page Six also reported that Britney has hired the famed celebrity divorce attorney Laura Wasser – whose clients include the likes of Johnny Depp and Kim Kardashian.
The singer previously enlisted Wasser’s help back in 2008 to tackle custody of her and ex-husband Kevin Federline’s two sons.
Rumours of Britney and Sam’s separation comes as the she gears up to publish her memoir, The Woman in Me, in October.
