Britney Spears’ son Jayden has addressed one of the internet’s strangest celebrity conspiracy theories.

The 19-year-old recently shut down claims that a clone has replaced his mum during a livestream after a fan brought up the viral rumour circulating online for the past couple of years.

The theory suggests that the Britney Spears seen in videos posted to her official social media accounts isn’t actually the pop star herself, a claim that has picked up traction across TikTok and other platforms, with millions of people engaging with videos questioning whether the singer is 'still alive'.

Jayden, who Spears shares with her ex-husband Kevin Federline, has since made it clear he thinks the whole thing is total nonsense.

"I hop on TikTok, and I see this one video that has 1.2 million likes, and the caption is like, 'The biggest theory ever: Is Britney Spears still alive?'" he said, per Entertainment Weekly.

According to a recording of the livestream, the teenager added: "Like, bro, you can go to her page and see her right now."

He went on to describe the theory as 'ridiculous', adding that it's a reminder of how quickly 'exaggerated and fake' misinformation can spread online.

"People know how gullible people are, and they use that to their advantage," he said. "If it has a lot of likes, they [believe] it. They don’t even research it; they’re just, 'Wow, yeah, it’s crazy. I believe it though.'"

The clone conspiracy has gained momentum in recent years, fuelled in part by discussion around Spears’ social media posts and online behaviour.

It even made its way into mainstream celebrity conversation when Kristin Cavallari shared her thoughts on the rumour during a 2024 episode of her Let’s Be Honest podcast.

"That’s not Britney Spears," Cavallari said at the time. "I’m sorry, it’s not Britney Spears. Go look at photos! That’s not Britney Spears.'

After catching light of Jayden's comments, one fan defended: "All these conspiracy theories are ridiculous and so embarrassing! Made up by crazy obsessed fans!'

A second praised: "Love him calling them out!!!"

And a final Instagram user echoed: "The fact that this even has to be said…"

Jayden’s comments come as he and his older brother, Sean Preston, 20, have reportedly been spending more time with their mum.

Spears, 44, has previously experienced periods of estrangement from her sons, but a representative for the singer told PEOPLE earlier this year that the family had been reconnecting.

Tyla has reached out to Britney Spears' representatives for comment.
