It's official one week today until the eagerly-awaited second-half of Bridgerton season three lands on Netflix - eek!

If you're anything like me, I bet you can hardly wait for Penelope Featherington to break the delightful news of her upcoming nuptials to her overbearing mother, and a newly-glowed-up Colin reveal his engagement to his equally hunky brothers.

Equal to viewers' excitement at what producers have in-store, however, is their dread at the prospect of Pen's secret identity of Lady Whistledown being exposed before she has a chance to snatch Colin up officially.

After all, by looks of the second-half's trailer - which was released earlier this week - we're in for a showdown for the ages, as Colin's sister and Pen's ex-BFF Eloise threatens to reveal the series' best kept secret so far.

Amid fans' desperation for a happy ending for the loved-up duo, however, Bridgerton's very own executive producer, Shonda Rhimes, has revealed that we're all in for an absolute sob-fest.

That's right, speaking on the Today show on Tuesday (4 June), the Shondaland frontwoman revealed she was actually brought to tears when she reached the final episode of the incoming instalment.

Giving fans a glimpse into what they can expect from part two, Shonda explained: "We're very secretive about it, but I will say that it is sexy and surprising in many ways, and also, I cried at the end.

"I found it really moving, and you know, I don't always cry, so I really got into it, I think it's a beautiful story."

For those who haven't yet had a chance to watch the second-half's trailer, allow us to fill you in.

The teaser kicks off with Colin announcing to his family that he and Pen are set to be married - following an extremely 'hands-on' proposal in the back of a carriage at the end of the first-half.

And it's not long before the entire ton know, after Penelope manages to put together a Whistledown pamphlet revealing the news overnight.

Of course, once Eloise finds out the pair are betrothed, things get complicated. She tells Penelope that Colin couldn't possible love her if he doesn't know the *real* her.

Meanwhile, it looks as though we can expect plenty more steamy scenes after Colin tells Anthony and Benedict why the wedding is to be so 'swift'.

Naturally, therefore, following Shonda's concerning admission, fans are praying that the producer was reduced to happy tears, as opposed to feeling devastating that things don't work out between Penelope and Colin.

Taking to social media, one viewer desperately begged: "WAIT. THE ENDING OF S3 MADE SHONDA CRY? THE SHONDA RHIMES????? CRYING????? "OH WE ARE F****D. WE ARE SOOOO F*****D WE ARE GONNA F*****G DROWN IN A SEA OF OUR OWN TEARS. WE ARE F****D."

Another added: "By the way she said it though, it sounds like maybe she cried in a good way? So hopefully happy tears!"

While someone else pleaded: "Nooo stop this woman that has traumatised me for years from greys anatomy to scandal please I’m here for light and fluffy it better be tears of joy!"

A fourth continued: "I think she means happy tears. Not like Romeo and Juliet tears. I am hoping for the most romantic, happy ending ever."

Another predicted: "We all are gonna cry happy tears together at the ending."

Part two of Bridgerton season three will be released on Netflix on June 13.
