Benny Blanco’s proposal to Selena Gomez had fans swooning last December, when it was revealed he’d dropped down on one knee over a romantic spread of... Taco Bell, Gomez’s favourite.
But it turns out the grand move almost didn’t go ahead, with Blanco admitting he found himself telling ‘bad lies’ to cover his tracks for the surprise.
The pair announced their engagement on Instagram, with photos showing Gomez sitting on a large blanket, admiring her ring.
"Forever begins now..." she wrote in the caption, after which Blanco penned in the comments: "Hey wait… that’s my wife."

One snap showed exactly how Blanco had set the scene, having laid out an elaborate picnic that included lots of Taco Bell takeaway goodies - an ode to Gomez’s favourite restaurant.

It seems that a lot of thought went into the big moment, but Blanco has now revealed that things almost didn’t go to plan – so much so, that it nearly didn’t happen altogether.
The couple appeared on the latest episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, receiving heartfelt congratulations from the host.
Gomez, who was asked if she had any inkling about a proposal, recalled how they were busy at the time promoting their new collaborative album I Said I Love You First.
“We had to do a lot of promo for the album,” she said.
“So I woke up, and I was very confused on what was happening, on where we were going, because it seemed kind of far. So, I'm kind of a little grumpy.
“I'm, like, tired... I said, ‘After this shoot, I'm going to go hang out with my friends.’
“And he starts, I guess, going, ‘Okay, sure. We'll see when you get here.’”
Blanco then cut in: “She almost didn't even come. She was like, ‘I really don't feel that well. I think I'm just going to stay home today. Can't we just make up the shoot another day?' And I was like, ‘Uhh...’ I'm trying to figure out a way to do...
He continued: "First of all, getting engaged to someone is the craziest thing in the world.
"It's like, right before you're going to tell someone you're going to be married to them forever. They're like, ‘Show me how good you can lie to me.’
“It's the hardest... She was just upset with me because the day before, I was making bad lies.”
Even the task of hiding the ring came as a huge source of stress for Blanco.
“It was in a box, and I had it hidden in a bag that I thought no one would go in,” he said, admitting: “It was the scariest week of my life."
Thankfully, it all came together in the end, and Gomez gave him the answer he was hoping for.
