Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner's child shares new name for the first time in public at grandfather's funeral

Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner's child shares new name for the first time in public at grandfather's funeral

All three of Ben and Jennifer's children were in attendance at William Garner's memorial service.

Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner’s child made an appearance and re-introduced themselves by name over the weekend.

The kid of Hollywood A-listers Ben and Jennifer, both 51, was present for the funeral of their grandfather, William Garner, on Saturday (6 April).

Jennifer first broke the news of her father's death on Instagram on April 1 by writing: “My dad passed peacefully Saturday afternoon. We were with him, singing ‘Amazing Grace’ as he left us (did we carry him across or scare him away— valid question.)

“While there is no tragedy in the death of an 85 year old man who lived a healthy, wonderful life, I know grief is unavoidable, waiting around unexpected corners.”

Over the weekend, William’s funeral was held at the Christ Church United Methodist in Charleston, West Virginia.

The memorial ceremony was live-streamed on Facebook and was attended by the Elektra actress and her three children.

During the service, the star’s middle child - who used gender-neutral pronouns - delivered a speech.

Appearing on the podium, the 15-year-old introduced themselves by saying: “Hello my name is Fin Affleck.”

They sported a buzzcut and wore a black suit for the sombre occasion.

Fin was also joined on the podium by their siblings Violet, 18, and Samuel, 13.

The trio took turns reading various passages from the Book of Proverbs - a reported favourite of their grandfathers.

Fin had selected to read Chapter 16, Verse 8: “Better is a little with righteousness, than a large income with injustice.”

Elsewhere in Jennifer’s social media tribute, shared with her 16 million followers, she wrote that she and her family were ‘grateful’ for the patriarch’s ‘quiet strength’ and ‘gentle demeanour’.

She added that the family wanted to ‘extend [their] gratitude’ to the medical communities of Charleston Area Medical Center and City of Hope.

“Your care extended Dad’s life and gave him time to be in his favorite spots— surrounded by daughters and grandchildren, cheering for his beloved Aggies, captaining a boat, and— most of all—next to his wife of 59 years, our Mom,” the mum-of-three explained.

“There is so much to say about my dad— my sisters and I will never be done talking about how wonderful he was, so bear with us— but for today I share these memories with my appreciation for the kind and brilliant man, father, and grandfather he was, as well as the loving legacy he left behind.”

Jennifer and Ben initially met on the set of Pearl Harbor in 2000, but didn’t begin dating until August 2004.

The couple tied the knot a year later in a private ceremony and welcomed their first child in December 2005.

After 10 years of marriage, the pair officially announced they would be filing for divorce in 2015.

The split was legally granted in October 2018 and the former couple have worked to co-parent their three children ever since.

In 2020, Ben shared that divorcing from his ex-wife was the ‘biggest regret’ of his life and said: “But you've got to pick yourself up, learn from it, learn some more, try to move forward.”
