Donald Trump claims he 'doesn’t know' who Bad Bunny is as he breaks silence on Super Bowl performance

The Puerto Rican rapper confirmed his upcoming attendance at the Super Bowl during an SNL appearance over the weekend

Following the news that he'll perform at next year's Super Bowl halftime show, Bad Bunny has been savagely rebuked by Donald Trump.

The Puerto Rican rapper - real name Benito Antonio Martinez - confirmed his upcoming headline slot at the eagerly-awaited sports game during a TV appearance over the weekend.

However, the choice of Bad Bunny hasn't gone down too well with the US president.

Speaking to Newsmax since the live gig's schedule was announced, Trump was asked his thoughts on the matter, before claiming he's never heard of the Central American star.

"I never heard of him, I don't know who he is," the 79-year-old insisted, before going on to slam the decision made by organisers to have him perform, given Bad Bunny's stance against Trump's immigration policies.

Days prior to his performance, the musician, 31, had appeared as Saturday Night Live's guest presenter, joking about Trump's favourite right-leaning news outlet: "You might not know this but I'm doing the Super Bowl halftime show.

"And I'm very happy and I think everyone is happy about it - even Fox News."

SNL bosses then played an edited compilation video, showing clips of reporters from the broadcaster spliced together to say: "Bad Bunny is my favourite musician and he should be the next president."

Bad Bunny continued: "Thank you. Wow, thank you. But really, I am very excited to be doing the Super Bowl and I know that people all around the world who love my music are also happy."

He also took aim at Trump's focus on the Latino community in his deportation plans, delivering a monologue in Spanish to thank his fans, saying: "Especially all of the Latinos and Latinas in the world here in the United States who have worked to open doors. It’s more than a win for myself, it’s a win for all of us.

"Our footprints and our contribution in this country, no one will ever be able to take that away or erase it."

He added: "If you did not understand what I just said... you have four months to learn!"

Addressing his comments on the show, as well as the decision to have him perform at the Super Bowl, Republican leader Trump went on to claim of organisers: "I don't know why they're doing it, it's like, crazy."

The right-wing politician also took aim at NFL commissioner Roger Goodell, bizarrely claiming the exec had blamed the decision 'on some promoter they hired'.

"I think it's absolutely ridiculous," Trump concluded.
