She may have been on the Hollywood scene since the early 00s, but some Amanda Seyfried fans have only just realised they’ve been pronouncing her name wrong this whole time.
For those in need of a reminder, the 38-year-old got her first taste of fame as a teenager, landing recurring roles in the likes of As the World Turns and All My Children.
By 2004, however, Seyfried had gotten her big break after being cast as ‘dumb blonde’ Karen Smith in cult classic Mean Girls, before landing lead roles in Mamma Mia, Jennifer’s Body and Dear John.
The 2010s saw the star expand into a vast array of different genres, including in the musical movie adaptation of Les Misérables and David Fincher’s intense biopic Mank - a role that earned her an Academy Award nomination.

Aside from the silver screen, in the years we’ve known her, Seyfried has also starred in a number of television hits - including Hulu’s The Dropout and Apple TV psych-drama The Crowded Room - served as ambassador for several high-end beauty brands, and welcomed two beautiful children with her Last Word co-star husband, Thomas Sadoski.
As we say, despite being a major figure in the celebrity circuit with a horde of awards under her belt, the usual spelling of the star’s family name has seen Seyfried subjected to some questionable mispronunciations.
Tired of the constant double-checking, she finally attempted to set the record straight back in 2013, when she was asked by Hollywood Stream to recall the worst pronunciations she’s ever heard.
She replied, ‘probably say-fry-ed, or sig-freed’.

“My sister says it different than I do, though,” she went on to explain. “Which is weird.
“I’m like, ‘It’s si-fred, and she’s like, si-freed. I was like, ‘No one says si-freed, it’s si-fred’.”
By the sounds of fan reaction in the comments, the news was a blindsiding revelation.
“THAT’S HOW YOU SAY HER LAST NAME?!?!” one demanded.
Another admitted: “Welp, I’ve been saying her name wrong lol”.
Thankfully, it’s not just Seyfried that’s been catching us out for our mispronunciation.
In a brand new advert for the beauty brand Lancôme - of which she has been the global ambassador since 2019 - she admits that she still struggles to pronounce the proper name of the French brand.

“We're Lancôme ambassadors, of course, we’re going to get asked if it’s Lohn-cohm or Lan-cohm,” Seyfried jokes in the clip, taking part in the TikTok ‘of course’ trend.
Also involved in the video was Isabella Rossellini - the brand's 1983 ambassador, who returned in 2016 - who jokingly joined in to confirm: “Once and for all it’s Lohn-cohm, Lohn-cohm!”
In another segment of the clip, Seyfried goes on to joke: “We’re Lancôme ambassadors. I don’t speak French, so of course I struggle with pronouncing the product names.”
She then butchers the pronunciation of the brand’s popular ‘Tient Idole’ foundation, before Italian-American star Rossellini, 71, pronounced it perfectly.
