Surprising meaning behind Travis Barker’s daughter Alabama’s name as it’s probably not what you think

The offspring of celebs are often known for their unique names – after all, there’s a lot to live up to if your parent is a gobally-recognised star.
Many take inspiration from geographical locations, like David and Victoria Beckham’s son Brooklyn or Alec Baldwin’s daughter Ireland.
But it turns out that Travis Barker’s daughter Alabama doesn’t follow suit in the way that you’d expect.
Blink-182 drummer Travis shares 19-year-old Alabama with first wife Shanna Moakler, who he was married to between 2004 and 2008, before his current relationship with Kourtney Kardashian.

When he and Shanna were together, one of their huge shared loves was a 1993 film directed by Tony Scott – something that proved so influential on their lives that it became the theme of their wedding.
“Our daughter is named after the character in the movie,” Shanna told People after it transpired Travis was bonding with his new wife over the film.
“I’m very much over my ex … However, do I think some of the PDA that he’s doing with her is weird? [Yes],” she said.
“The movie, True Romance, that I feel like they’ve been bonding over was the theme of our wedding.”
Travis and Shanna named their daughter Alabama as a nod to one of the film’s main characters – Alabama Whirley, played by Patricia Arquette.
As it happens, Alabama is a call girl who gets whisked off her feet by Clarence (Christian Slater) as they go from strangers to husband and wife in a matter of days, bonding as they go on the run from the Mafia.
The former couple also share son Landon, 21, and Travis recently welcomed a younger son, Rocky, with Kourtney.
The eldest Kardashian sister has clearly been won over by the film, too, having joined Travis in dressing up as Alabama and Clarence for Halloween in 2021.
Quoting the film, which was written by Quentin Tarantino, she captioned an Insta post of pics: "Amid the chaos of that day, when all I could hear was the thunder of gunshots, and all I could smell was the violence in the air, I look back and am amazed that my thoughts were so clear and true, that three words went through my mind endlessly, repeating themselves like a broken record: you're so cool, you're so cool, you're so cool.”
