Aaron Carter's twin sister Angel reveals their tragic final conversation before his death aged 34 left her 'angry'

Angel admitted she was 'upset' and 'angry' the last time she spoke to her brother Aaron before he died in 2022

Aaron Carter's twin sister has recalled their final phone call over two years on from his sudden death aged 34 after accidentally drowning.

The singer and rapper was found dead in his bathtub by a housekeeper on 5 November 2022, though it took several weeks for his cause of death to be made public.

The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner determined the following April that he'd died via drowning after inhaling difluoroethane, having taken alprazolam (Xanax). The report alleged that Aaron had been 'incapacitated while in the bathtub due to the effects' of the drugs.

Though his ashes were subsequently interred at Forest Lawn Memorial Park by his family - including big brother and Backstreet Boys star Nick Carter, 45, and model/interior designer twin sister Angel, 37.

In the years' prior to the rapper's death, however, he was estranged from the pair.

In 2019, Nick revealed he and Angel sought restraining orders against Aaron as a result of his 'increasingly alarming behaviour'.

Opening up on the decision on Twitter at the time, the 'I Want It That Way' singer claimed they cut contact over Aaron's 'recent confession that he harbours thoughts and intentions of killing my pregnant wife and unborn child'.

Despite refusing to see her brother in the flesh for several years - the last time being in a court room that year - Angel this week revealed she'd spoken to Aaron over the phone three days before his passing.

Speaking to PEOPLE, she claimed the phone call came about after she noticed her brother 'was on Instagram Live and huffing duster cans and passing out and all these things'.

"So I just called him, and I was like, 'What are you doing?' And he tried to deny it," she recalled.

"And I said, 'Aaron, I saw you on Live. I saw it happen. Live, you doing this.' And then he blamed me, and he said, 'Well, you're the reason why I'd use drugs.'

"And I said, 'Aaron, that's not really fair. You can't, don't blame me for this.' "

The mother-of-one told the publication she became 'upset' during the interaction, after her brother allegedly told her, 'I want to see you. You haven't seen me in almost three years'."

Reflecting on her response, she continued: "And I said, 'Well, I want to see you too.' But I said, 'It's got to be with a therapist. We've got to have someone mediating the situation.'

"And he said, 'Well, I'll call my therapist right now.' And I said, 'No, it can't be your therapist. It can't be my therapist. It's got to be a middle person like someone else'."

At the end of the discussion, Angel vowed to call her brother back 'a little later'.

"I was angry that he had told me that I was the reason why he was doing drugs and got off the phone," she admitted. "And that was the last time I talked to him."

Following the announcement of Aaron's death, Angel shared a tribute on social media, writing: "To my twin… I loved you beyond measure.

"You will be missed dearly. My funny, sweet Aaron, I have so many memories of you... and I promise to cherish them.

"I know you're at peace now. I will carry you with me until the day I die and get to see you again."

Meanwhile, Nick wrote: "My heart has been broken today.

"Even though my brother and I have had a complicated relationship, my love for him has never ever faded. I have always held onto the hope that he would somehow, someday want to walk a healthy path and eventually find the help that he so desperately needed."
