It seems patient Outer Banks fans might not have long to wait for a second season, after its co-creator revealed Netflix had given the "green light" for another instalment.

Jonas Pate explained creators of the teen drama had been working on scripts for a second season "for some time" - so hopefully we won't be waiting too much longer after *that* Season 1 cliffhanger.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Jonas explained the streaming platform had given the green light for a Season 2 even before Season 1 was released.

He said: "Ever since we started, we always viewed it as something that was probably like a four-season, maybe five-season show, but definitely four seasons.

"We've sort of long-arced it out pretty far. I'm just hoping that we get a chance to actually tell those stories.

"Before [Season 1] even came out, Netflix had green-lit us to write some [Season 2] scripts, so we've been working on that for a few months now."

If you're yet to watch the teen drama, it focuses on best friends John B (Chase Stokes), JJ (Rudy Pankow), Pope (Jonathan Daviss), and Kiara (Madison Bailey) - a group of youngsters known as the 'Pogues' who live on the Outer Banks - a beach holiday destination in North Carolina.

Warning: Spoiler alert incoming!

At the start of the summer season, a hurricane kills the town's power and sets off a series of events that lead to the group making some life changing choices.

This includes searching for group leader, John B's missing father as well as hunting down hidden treasure - all the while navigating romance, relationships and the normal trials and tribulations of being a teenager.

The group go in search of a mysterious ship wreck - the Royal Merchant - that sunk with millions of pounds worth of gold on board. Despite them managing to locate it by the end of the season, it's stolen by their rivals.

Season 1 ends on a huge cliffhanger with John B fleeing the police after being framed for murder. Along with Sarah, he makes his escape via boat - which ends up capsizing in a tropical storm.

Everyone presumes they are dead, but the pair manage to survive after being rescued by another boat. They then make it their mission to head to the Bahamas to take back the wreckage - and the gold.

Although there are currently no details regarding the plot of a Season 2, Jonas has said that at least an episode or two will be set in the Bahamas.

There's no release date yet (production is yet to begin) but Tyla has contacted Netflix for more details...
