Whether it's baking cakes, making jigsaw puzzles or rediscovering old movies, many of us are seeking a big dose of childhood nostalgia during lockdown.

It's perfect timing, then, that the The Princess Bride lands on Disney+ on 1st May.

Seriously, this 1987 fantasy-adventure-comedy remains a stone cold classic. Directed and co-produced by Rob Reiner, it stars Cary Elwes and Robin Wright.

Disney + made the announcements in a tweet yesterday, teasing the release with a super-cute video call between co-stars Cary and Robin.

FaceTiming one another while in lockdown at home, the actor duo made the announcement.

"I'm not sure how to work this device thingy," jokes Cary, grinning to camera. "Are you bored yet?"

"No, you?" replies Robin.

"Not even!" says Cary. "But if I was stuck in front of my TV, I could think of some real fun things to watch... like that Princess Bride movie we made together."

Oh guys, you jokers. 1st May can't come soon enough.

"Does this mean I'll get to take a selfie with Mickey?" Robin asks, hoping for a personal meet-and-greet with her favourite mouse.

Cary responds: "They better say 'as you wish' to that otherwise I want no part of it."

Twitter promptly went nuts, naturally.

"Best film of all time!" wrote one excited super-fan.

"Nothing could make me happier now," tweeted another.

"It already streams every day in my house," commented a third.

The fan-favourite movie was adapted from William Goldman's 1973 novel of the same name and had everyone falling for handsome farmhand Westley (Cary Elwes) getting hair envy over Princess Buttercup and generally hating on Prince Humperdink (Chris Sarandon).

Over time, Reiner's movie adaptation became a cult classic.

The film gave an extra nod to Goldman's original novel by presenting the story as a book being read by a grandfather (played by Peter Falk) to his poorly grandson (Fred Savage) too.

Bring on 1st May. The idea that we'd miss the return of this childhood favourite is "inconceivable!"
