As we head into the cold winter months, we're in need of some thrilling TV shows to binge-watch as we snuggle up at home.

And for those who have failed to catch it the first time round, Netflix's Stranger Things has now been voted as the best show to binge on.

In a list published by Ranker.com, the sci-fi horror drama placed above many other of our favourites including Game of Thrones, Breaking Bad and The Office. It was one of only a few of shows on the list that is still producing new episodes.

The show premiered on Netflix in 2016, and became an instant hit. Fans fell in love with the 1980s setting, the characters, the return of Winona Ryder (!) and the twists and turns orchestrated by the show's creators, the Duffer Brothers.

Set in the fictional town of Hawkins, Indiana, there are now 25 episodes over three seasons which follow a number a supernatural events occurring around the town. The first series hinged around the appearance of Eleven, a young girl played by Millie Bobby Brown, who has telepathic and psychokinetic abilities. The cast also includes Finn Wolfhard, Noah Schnapp, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin and many more.

Unfortunately for fans who are already up to date with the show, there hasn't been any new episodes since season three dropped on Netflix in July 2019. However, the creators have since confirmed that the show won't end at the fourth instalment. The premiere date is still TBD and production has yet to resume after a number of shows were forced to halt filming due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Nevertheless, this does give new fans a chance to catch up.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, creators Ross and Matt Duffer announced the news, explaining the pandemic has given them more time to work on scripts.

Ross said: "Season four won't be the end. We know what the end is, and we know when it is.

"[The coronavirus pandemic] has given us time to look ahead, figure out what is best for the show. Starting to fill that out gave us a better idea of how long we need to tell that story."

Meanwhile, Matt added: "We've had a lot more time to work on the scripts. For the first time, we have all the scripts written and we're able to look at it as a whole piece and make adjustments."
